I opted not to put this in the brake system forum since it's not a specific z car technical question. It's certainly applicable to a z car as much as any car, though. Here goes. I do not understand the popular opinion that installing oversize brake calipers and/or replacing drums with calipers benefits from a larger master cylinder bore. A larger master cylinder bore decreases hydraulic line pressure throughout the braking system for a given force at the pedal, this I fully understand. One argument is the moving of a "larger volume of fluid" with the larger bore. What does this have to do with anything? Basic analysis of any hydraulic brake system tells me that, if a…

Have a 71 with some engine mods(deletions by PO), no air pump, and the rear connection to it on the air cleaner was just left open,(which left intake of a small amount of unfiltered air). And the air check valve outlet was plugged off. Ran ok, but was wondering if I could connect the air check outlet to the back of the air cleaner?

Just got back from Porsche Cayenne training semminar at the Barber Motorsports Park In Burmingham Alabama, holy sh**t that was fun. Got to drive all the new Porsche Cayenne's and test them against BMW X5 and X6, Mercedes ML-550, Range Rover Sport Supercharged and the Infiniti FX-50 plus a bonus Panamera. If you ever get to Alabama I highly recommend visiting the Barber Motorsports Park and museum. George Barber not to be confused with Skip Barber has the most incredible collection of motorcycle's and vintage racing cars I have ever seen, plus the race track is awesome, I got to drive all the cars flat out as fast as I could. All the cars did very well except the Range Rov…

Today I noticed one of the two bolts that mounts the distributor to the front engine cover on my 240z was loose, so I tightened it. The bolt seemed to turn freely, but suddenly just snapped off flush with the front engine cover when I tightened it. I didn't even snug it and somehow it broke off. Now I have to find a way to remove the broken off piece from the engine cover. What's the best way to go about doing this? I realize that I will have to take the distributor off, but will that screw with the timing?

Got my '71 Z radiator back from the rad shop today (had a blown tube that was sealed off and two others leaking that were repaired). It's been re-cored at least once as it's a 3 row core. The radiator guy (good old guy in the business for awhile) recommended going to a 7 PSI cap (vs the 13 psi I run) to relieve some stress on the old cooling system. Said it wouldn't affect the running temp much but would increase the longevity of the various components/gaskets (including his repair I presume). Opinions on this? I know it would lower the boiling point, but would that just cause more overflow when stopped? (I don't have an overflow tank on it). Would it cause any other prob…

First, I would like to say Thank You to everybody who replied in regards of my need to include some additive in the fuel during summer heat for keeping my engine from starving in intense summer heat(100F+). The product doesn't bring any benefits to gasoline volatility in the climate condition mentioned above. The electric fuel pump is sucking as hard as before to supply the carbs. Same loss of power and no improvement........maybe a bit easier to start between engine shut down and start-up a few minutes apart. The engine performs flawlessly on the freeway with the electric pump on in the hottest time of the day.......always cool (middle of the temperature gauge)....right …

Being optimistic that I will make it to the show, I have a few questions about how a big show like this works. I read the schedule of events and I see- Z car store hours- throughout the week-what does that mean? Is that just hanging out at the place, showing off your car? Do folks bring any kind of canopies to put there car under for sun shelter? Is there a market place to bring Z items to sell, or does everyone do there on thing if they want to sell some stuff-or is this not proper show manners? Hate to sound like such a newbie, but never have participated in anything this big:)
