My 1978 driver's side door lock has gotten progressively worse over the past months. It started out taking 2-3 turns of the key to pop the lock up when it was cold outside (I thought this might be normal or at least not a huge problem) but now it's almost impossible to unlock the door, in any condition. It feels like the key is making the turn but somewhere in all the linkage the force is getting lost before it reaches the lock. It's kind of spongy. If the door is open, pushing/pulling the black lock manually with my hand, it pops up and down beautifully. So it must be something with the actual key mechanism. And also, LOCKING the door with the key works every time. The …

I don't know about everybody else in New England, but my rule is, the Z goes into the garage until after the last snowstorm, and at least 2 or 3 days of rain, to wash away the road salt. By my calculation, we are getting the rain we need this weekend! Finished my R/T mount upgrade last night, changed the oil/filter, rotated the tires. As long as there's no more snow (fingers crossed) the Z returns to the road next week!

After sitting 16 years, and now 7 weeks of going through many engine related things, it fired up today. After warmed up I checked the compression and cylinders 1-5 are right at 170psi, #6 is 135. Hoping maybe a little grit on a valve seat will work its way off. Readjusted the valves and got another 5psi. Still have some carb adjusting to do... This web site has been invaluable, esp. the "waking the sleeper.." threads. Had to have tank boiled and POR'd, replaced all rubber fuel lines, fuel pump and filter, ZT carbs, all coolant hoses, cleaned all elec contacts. Thought it was ready yesterday but wouldn't fire up, ended up the points were bad. New set today and it fired up…

Thanks to Banzai Motorworks, I've now got a pair of genuine Nissan service manuals to work with. Pretty cool stuff The dedicated engine book is quite weathered and grit-marked, it has such a nice nostalgic smell and feel to it. It's the kind of thing that any wife would yank off the mantle so fast it would tear the pages, but that any of us could stare at and admire there for hours.

I need the black center caps for my WEDS Rims. We've tried to get them everywhere, including the manufacturer but they are discontinued. Does anyone know where I can get them? They are original but were probably an add on from the dealer and weren't stock. Thanks!

I have louvers on the back of my 280z made by Mulholland Interpart. I've been having trouble with the lock that lets me raise it to wash the back window. The metal thing that connects the locking mechanism to the rest of the frame broke and I had it replaced (for about $100!) Now the lock itself is broken, the little key doesn't turn it. Help!

Any chance anyone might have an NOS or suitable replacement for this hose. It comes off the heater core and heads out to the engine compartment. It actually bends in 2 different directions. For a 75 280Z. Not available from Nissan. Bryan

The Z Car Club of Rochester (ZCCR) presents the Third Annual Jonathan Krenzer Memorial All Japanese Car Show on Saturday, July 10, 2010. In addition to the hundreds of great cars of all Japanese marques, we are thrilled to announce that the show will feature a very special display of several historic Datsun/Nissan vehicles: * 1969 Datsun 240Z HLS30-00006, the oldest HLS30 in existence. The first car to leave the factory in October 1969 for North American car show presentation. This is the originally green car that a model infamously sat on and dented, resulting in it being removed from the car show circuit. It was then given to Bob Sharp for racing development. The …
