This may be a contentious topic but in searching for ways to clean up my engine bay, everyone seems to harp on reading the FSM instead of actually giving beneficial feedback on the subject? I understand the importance of EGR, etc, and its functionality but it seems to be clouded by a automatic response of "its there for a reason". The only reason its there is for emission purposes.. I am an engineer that works in the oil and gas industry and completely understand the process because we do the same thing... for emission purposes. People build cars for various applications, some are purists, others are restomods, and some are somewhere in between (myself included). it…

Hi all I'm looking for information about all the years, car designation for all the years of the Z car in NORTH AMERICA only, I know there are different designation for right hand drives and the 2+2 cars, not really looking for those. This is what I have so far: 240 - 260 - 280 = S30 for years 1970 to 1978 280 ZX = S130 for years 1979 to 1983 300 ZX = Z31 for years 1984 to 1989 300 ZX = Z32 for years 1990 to 1996 350 Z = Z33 for years 2002 to 2008 - This could be wrong years 370 Z = Z34 for years 2009 to 2021 400 Z = Z35 for years 2022 to ? I know there are going to be those of you that will want to add in all the different…

Was cruising Black Friday deals to buy a 6 point impact socket set since all of my 1/2" drive are 12 point and I am tired of stripping my old rusty fasteners. I took a look around my 280z last night, and I don't see a lot of bolts that require a deep socket, but is it worth it to have a deep set? My plan was to buy the Tekton standard set (SID92321 8-24mm) and save the money I would have paid for a deep set ($80) to put towards batteries for my impact, but I saw GearWrench is running a promo for the standard & deep kit (84948N 8-30mm) for 50% off ($120, normally $235) that comes with a universal head and a few additional sockets on the top and bottom end. D…

Since I got the car the fuel gauge never worked. I had the tank restored by “Gas Tank RENU” I had the Z clinic shop in Austin install the tank with a new a sender unit. The fuel gauge still didn’t work. I had the radio/dash panel out which gave me access to the gauge. I grounded the yellow wire and the needle moved, I stopped at ¾ full (never pegging gauge). I read you can damage the gauge. I tested the wires with my meter. With the ignition on I got just under 11 volts at the gauge connection. I removed the gauge and cleaned the outside contacts. I installed the fuel gauge and it worked kind of. When I turn on the ignition the gauge floats constantly. First t…

I took a long road trip, several hours of night driving (i generally avoid night driving). hours into it i notice one head light seems seems very dim, the other still on but def not full bright. While stopping for gas I get out to look it over and while inspecting the very dim goes out completely. luck holds out on the other and I make it to daybreak. 1st place I check is the fuse box, good one is very hot other out. I pull them both, each shows signs of distress, partial melted. Replaced and all good again. Not sure why the partial melt down vs full blown, and all good now after more extended night running.

I've had my Triple Webers on my 280z for about a year now, been running the car since on a baseline tune. I have an L28 N42 Block with a rebuilt E88 head from a 260z I believe. Should be stock internals aside from a slightly thinner head gasket. The car drives pretty good, however I have to ease into the throttle at lower rpms before I can fully mash it otherwise the webers bog and backfire. The car smells like it's running pretty rich too. I am wondering if there is anyone recommended in the LA County area that knows how to tune these carbs close to perfection. I live more up north of LA (Santa Clarita to be exact) Closer the better! I am also wondering how much I s…

Hi all, Finally found the correct Tokico M/C for my Z, to replace the existing Sanyco M/C. However the brake booster piston is too long. When depressed the Tokico stroke is 1 1/8”, whereas the Sanyco is 2 1/4”. Does anyone know the length of the booster piston for the original M/C?

Does anyone make door jambs for the body, not the door. Rear quarters and lower a pillar? Maybe even a full rear quarter.
