to make a long story short, i was going to do a trade with a dallas area body shop: the total rust repair, paint job and supplies for my 280 for the same value in radio commercial air time. they were very interested in the idea, until i pulled up in the z. then it was almost nothing but doom and gloom, and "we thought the car was in better condition than this," etc. they told me that they would call me back in a week with a cost estimate to work out the trade, but then this afternoon they called me and told me that they can't do the job after all, it's just not worth it to them. now i feel horrible about my car, and though i've thought that it was easily salvageable sin…

Just thought I'd share. I found a couple Hot Wheel Z's. These are 240Z's. From the Hot Wheels Wiki: The Datsun 240Z is a Hot Wheels casting based on the real car of the same name and was recreated in 1/64 scale by Hot Wheels designer Phil Riehlman. 2007 Fun Fact #80 of 180: Did you know that in 2004 Sports Car International named this car the number 2 sports car of the 1970's, beating out some well-known, high-end performance exotics? And here's the wiki page: http://hotwheels.wikia.com/wiki/Datsun_240Z The paints for these are Spectraflame Black and Spectraflame Red. I'm quite partial to that red. I think it looks awesome...

....because it could have been ugly! My daughter was home for the holidays and I try and take the oppurtunity to check on her 81 280zxt and make sure it's okay. I put some new speakers in the car for her Christmas present and I also had some maintenance items I wanted to take care of. Due to the extreme cold here in Indianapolis the 30 year old oil seals were starting to give out. The Crank pulley or front main seal started leaking and the power steering pump started spewing too. I happened to have an extra crank seal and I was actually able to order a shaft seal for the pump from Napa(6$). I never had messed with the PS pump before but thought it couldn't be too bad. I …

Was sitting in my 240Z today (working on the windshield sunshade, update on that soon to be posted), and looked at the odometer and noticed that while driving the car to and from work last week, it finally turned over 70,000 miles! My car is getting old! Fact of the matter is, the 240Z is the lowest mileage car we own...

hi all im new to the forums and only recently became interested in the 240z after seeing one on the road. i don't know to much information about it but i do know the specs of the 240z and the 280z and have been able to find out enough information about them through this forum to choose a 240z as my preference. so i have decided to buy one in a couple of years but i would like to know as much info as possible beforehand. i was wondering what the fuel consumption is like on a stock 240z in good condition and what it would be like as a daily drive. also is there any other really important information i should know about before buying one? by the way im living in australia so…

Hello all, New to the site. I used to own a 78 Z in my 20's and I've missed that car for a long time. Been looking for a 280 Z for quite a while and finally found and bought a 76 today. 90K on the motor, very clean interior but the paint has some hangar rash that will need to get fixed. Kept garaged all these years. Pretty stocked and its been a blast to drive..

Hello All, I've been going through boxes of parts and organizing so that it is easier to find things when i get to the point of reassembling my Z. This also includes making a list of parts that are needed. I pulled the radiator cap that was removed when the radiator went to be recored. Most of the bottom part where it seals is rotten away so I will need to replace it. I can not find an exact copy only the standard aftermarket replacement. Does anybody know if the attached pic is original and if so if they are available somewhere or what the accepted alternative is in a restoration. I dont mind using the newer style if that is all that is available but if the o…

Prior to restoring my '78 coupe, I - like many of us here - had to deal with some pretty strong exhaust fumes in the cabin. It wasn't a problem with both windows up and wasn't very noticeable with both of them down. But with one window up and the other down, it was another story. Sometimes it was so strong I thought I must be crazy to love this car enough to drive under these conditions. After driving the car like that, my clothes and I smelled like an exhaust pipe. Not at all cool, especially when going to work in an office downtown! I've read many similar stories here. No more! Yesterday I had to drive across town to pick up a few items. Other than a few shor…
