Even though I've had my 240Z for a couple months now, this is the first week I've really had to drive it around. I drove it to work a couple days and went to my first Datsun meet tonight at Dublin Nissan. I haven't had a chance to install the headers and exhaust yet so I am putting up with a rusty muffler and ticking midpipe. All that aside I love the sound of the engine and it seems to get better every time I drive it. The power has a sneaky way of coming on, almost like a small turbo engine. It has decent torque down low but the power really comes on above 3K. I've definitely driven faster cars but this has a major fun factor. I still want to do triple Webers for that …

Just thought I would update everyone that I finally finished getting my 72 back together. If you remember, floor, framerails, frame up to the T/C Mount, inner and outer inside fender were rusted into nothing. I bent and replaced everything, minus one Bad Dog Frame Rail that I used as a template. All told I guess there is around 80 hours including stripping the undercoat, cutting out all the bad metal, bending up and fabbing all the new and then getting it all into place. I used a full 4x4ft sheet of 18ga to build it all. I have not primed and undercoated yet. I am going to put a few miles in it and make sure every weld holds and there is no buckling or any other is…

What a cluster%#@! I called an acquaintance and arranged to use his car trailer to pick up my new Z car. Once the times were set I drove home (I work out of town) 180 miles to get the trailer. When he arrived it was getting dark and he drove up with the wrong trailer. I was so anxious to get the car I just decided to give it a try. One tire blew out within 6 minutes of driving. The spare had a hole in the side. It took 4 hours to finally get a tire mounted. The lights began falling off and I had to stop and fix everything. I finally got back to work and was looking forward to Friday and Saturday. To make the week even more complete I backed my F-150 into an invisible con…

He's got a link to a bunch more pictures too. No bids, reserve price, buy it now of $6,000. Looks pretty nice. I'm not in the market yet but I'm trying to get a good grasp on z values while I save up the money. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1978-DATSUN-280Z-SUPER-CLEAN-ORIGNAL-88K-MILES-MINT_W0QQitemZ260432160643QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_Cars_Trucks?hash=item3ca2f76783&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245&_trkparms=65%3A12|39%3A1|72%3A317|240%3A1318

Yesterday driving up I-35 in central Texas, traffic was dense, moving at about 75mph (typical for that stretch of road). It was so dense, that maintaining a responsible following distance was all but impossible, because people would constantly cut in if you left any room at all. From what we pieced together afterward, some idiot in the left hand lane decided he wanted to take an exit AS he was passing it, so he cut across both lanes of traffic to get to it. Chaos ensued. All I personally saw was a truck pulling a low trailer swerving across both lanes with dirt and debris flying everywhere (unsecured junk he had in the trailer, like a big blue Igloo cooler, for one), les…

My 77 280z has a non working a/c. There is a sticker with some details on the hood. Was the a/c installed factory or is it a dealer item? Can it be brought back to life with the new freon replacement or is it just too much to deal with? Thanks, Leonard

Spent some time in the garage today, and completed a mod I've been meaning to do for almost 3 years now. Now I realize that those of you who own '72 and later Zs may be scratching your heads about now. But those who own '70-71 will recognize that the early seat backs don't tilt forward like that. Yes, today I refurbished and installed a set of the later reclining hardware on my seats. Now they not only tilt forward for easier behind the seat access, but the will recline back over a much larger range. The hardware came out of my former blue parts car, which was also a '71 so they weren't original there, either. But I think I will like having them in my car. And of cou…

I started out with the intent on replacing the exhaust manifold on my all original '72 but it now seems there may be more I need to do. I got the manifold off tonigh with little trouble. There are a couple of studs that are stuck in the block and a thermostat bolt sheared off in the block. A little PB Blaster and I should be able to back it out. I hope I can use the vise grips on the studs after I let them soak for a few days. I should get my headers on Tuesday. I need to replace most of my hardware and all of my gaskets. All of the original hoses will need to be replaced. I am having trouble finding replacements for the insulated hoses. Particularly the brake …

I will be picking up my first 1973 240Z a week from Saturday. When I get it I would like to get details on it through the vin number. Is there a decoder somewhere. I did a search on line and got all kinds of crap about buying this or that and where to find this and that but nothing that just decodes the VIN. I put the details of my acquisition in the introduction forum.
