i'm just venturing into the world of car restoration and i'm starting with one of my all time favorite cars, the 240z. my grandpa gave it to me as long as i promised not to sell it, but i want to preserve it as a family heirloom. i thought it would be fine, just need some interior work and a little TLC for the engine, but it had been sitting for longer than i thought. i dont even know where to begin. i started by tearing out the carpet and insulation in the interior because it's all trashed and will need replacing. where should i go next? i have attached a link to some picture of the car i took today. i'm keeping a journal of the restoration process and all the stories my…

There is a 240z i will be going to see this weekend that is selling for dirt cheap. The owner says it has rust inside (floor rusting out) - although the engine and auto trans and just about everything else is good. I'm not sure of the year; but what should I look for? I would get it just to part it out to some of you guys on here (i have a 280 so i don't have a lot of use for some of the stuff in it) - If the interior is good; dash, etc - it would make for a great parts car deal. Any particular things I should look for? Anyone need parts I should keep my eye out for?

I am closing a chapter in my life this month, I ran a successful datsun Z car parts business for about 3 years and now with a baby on the way I have closed it down. I'm in contact with Sunrise about a 5-speed tranny. They're in Ranch Cordova, CA. Anybody had experience with them? The price seems right for a rebuilt 5-speed, and they said its only about $30 to ship it to MA.

I watched the movie Wall-e last night. Probably the most impressive animated film I have seen yet. For all that have seen it, maybe you can verify. It seems that in two seperate scenes, Wall-e has a Datsun "D" 240z hubcap in his little shed. He even uses it for a little dance number in the film. I could have sworn it was a 240z hubcap but wanted to see if anyone else noticed. If this is too lame for a thread discussion, maybe members could also list movies the Z appears in over the years

Doesn't look AMAZING; although pretty cheap, might make for a good parts car. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Datsun-280z-MUST-SELL-1978-280Z_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ72Q3a1240Q7c66Q3a2Q7c65Q3a12Q7c39Q3a1Q7c240Q3a1318QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem150311535656QQitemZ150311535656QQptZUSQ5fCarsQ5fTrucks

What is the best way to go about restoring your valve cover? Im not talking about polishing it or chroming it or painting it, I mean getting it to look as it did when new, a strong cleaning? With what?

Take a look at this solid 240z that features the very rare blue exterior with blue interior, an uncracked dash and a very clean engine compartment (although, the hub caps are incorrect for a '71): http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Cars-Trucks___1971-Datsun-240Z-rare-66k-original-miles-collector_W0QQitemZ120334804168QQddnZCarsQ20Q26Q20TrucksQQddiZ2282QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_Cars_Trucks?hash=item120334804168&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245&_trkparms=72%3A727|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1308

I figured I need to post this one more time since my last time through was incomplete in the diagnosis so here's my problem one more time...please help me out on this: The car is a 1974 260z with 3 screw round top SUs. The car starts up fine. Until it is COMPLETELY warmed up, it runs fine. Once fully warmed up, under acceleration, the engine will hesitate/buck. Pulling back on the choke lever alleviates this hesitation/bucking. Changing the Octane of the gas does not help. It seems to only be temperature effected. If there is any other information I can get for you to be a help, please, let me know.
