I was going through a box today that came with the 73 240Z and it had this tool kit in it, (or wheels kit) is it an original from 73 or an aftermarket. There were also some yellow wheel chocks. Are these rare at all, or pretty common. Just curious. Randy

Today I saw a silver 280z pulling out of Ocean State Job Lot in my town, Southington. I was in my 300zx and followed him a bit on the highway (I-84 East) and honked at him with thumbs up. I don't really think he knew I was also driving a Z nor that I liked his car, I think he thought I wanted to race oh well. I was just seeing if he was on here. I don't see any s30's around my area ever so I got excited. I wish I was driving my 280z along side him...would have been fun.

Hello all. This may be a stupid question but someone said once that there are no stupid questions just stupid people or stupid answers. I forget how the last part goes but here goes with the question. The fuel door knob on the Datsun 240z at least the 69, 70, 71 and maybe 72 has the edge or what I call protuberance in the middle of the knob. In the latched position where the fuel door cannot open without turning, does that edge face in the north/south position or the east west position. The reason I ask is that I bought one of those original series one ads and I am going to frame it and hang it up. The one with the blonde in the passenger seat that you may be familiar wit…

I need to find a home for the Z for the winter. We have a two car garage that has a ceiling tall enough to accomodate one of these 4 post car lifts. I would like to have the Z in the garage so that I can work on it over the winter. Also I would think it would make working under the car a snap even just to change the oil. I would love the hear from anyone that owns one of these lifts? http://www.gregsmithequipment.com/SearchResults.asp Questions I have: 1. How is it parking and getting into and out of the car that would be under the Z? 2. Do the posts get in the way? My garage is only 20' wide by 24' deep. 3. What brand do you have an are you satisfied with it? Ap…

hi guys. i know this subject has been done to death but a few ideas may sway my final color choice in my 240z restoration. let me start with my accessories which will determine look. 15 x 8 watanabe gunmetal/machined lip. msa airdam with no ducts (jdm style not bre) msa carbon fibre bumpers (but o.e chrome ones still in superb condition so could still use). i know it's my color my car scenario but i haven't seen that many in the flesh. a car in a photo on the web can be alot different to the real deal.so those who have been to a few meets/shows could help me out. here's my short list (at the moment!) with pics in order. honda championship white (could always powder…

Okay I know this has been brought up and discussed before and I read the old threads and talked to different sources through the years and I'm as confused as ever. Let me see if I can put some supposed puzzle pieces down that I've heard about regarding 280Z's horsepower (and generally all the classic Zs). 1975 the 280Z came out. Sources speak of the engine having 149 HP. Okay. 1976 some online sources don't speak of anything different with the engine. I have a metal plate under the hood that says 170 HP. I was talking to the owner of one Z shop locally and he was saying "oh yeah we can completely rebuild your engine brand new to 200+HP for xxxx dollars". Another o…

Well, The last 4-5 weeks have brought me to a conclusion......I am a driver not a wrencher. I don't mind the basics and really thought I would enjoy tearing down and rebuilding this car......but.....I don't. I think some people just have this skill and passion, and I wish I did, but my passion is sitting behind the wheel and doing the interior work. I'm actually glad I figured this out now than later. So with that being said what should I do with this 73 240Z. The car does start and run, but can't drive it because the clutch has no resistance. Parting it would probably bring the most dollars, but I hate to do that to a running (kind of) car. If I part it I would let…

I have a '72 240 with a 280 block and the original head, carbs and distributer. It used to have smog equipment but, with the help and advice from this forum, it has all been removed with the exception of the anti-backfire valve and pcv. The question is where do I set the timing? I think the 240 called for 10 degrees and the 280 17 degrees. Any help is appreciated. P.S. As a side note: I capped off the tube that took the exhaust back from the exhaust manifold and recirculated it. I plan to get headers eventually when the engine is rebuilt. However, for now can I cut those tubes exiting the manifold and bend them over the nut with a little hammer and chisel action or a…

I was driving on the expressway the passed few days, and noticed when I hit about 70 - 80mph, my car will rattle a little a bit. Is this caused by the aerodynamics of the front of the car/bumper? I read this on the Wikipedia Nissan S30 page: "For instance, simply removing the heavy front bumper and adding a front spoiler corrects the otherwise jittery high-speed handling of the stock version." How true is this statement?

When I bought my car, it came with an extra set of 4 bolt round top SU's bolted to an E46 manifold. I need the room in my garage for new tools, so this needs to go. Is there anybody who needs a set of round tops. The PO told me they were in working condition when they were removed, but I have NEVER verified this. They do appear to need to be cleaned. I can take pictures of them if anybody wants to see it. I would take any reasonable offer, hopefully I can help somebody out.

OK, Thanks to many of you on here I got the carbs, intake, hoses, etc all back on the 240 but do not have these items installed. Non-return valve Throttle opener control Servo diaphram Solenoid valve EGR control valve Flame trap The car will start and run but then eventually dies. I have searched alot of engine pictures and some don't have most of these items on. What if any of the above need to be installed, or if all above is left off is that ok? Sorry for all the questions lately, but it is a great learning experience for me. Wish I would have taken those auto classes 25 years ago in high school.
