Hi All. I picked up a used splash pan for a 71 in decent shape. It appears to be gloss black on the bottom and silver or gray on the side that faces the engine. Is this the original paint scheme? I am going to sandblast it after some minor panel straightening and I wanted to get it powdercoasted. I don't think that a powdercoaster can coat two different colors on the same piece. I want to stay original as possible so that may preclude powder coating. Or if those are the original colors maybe I can powdercoat it all silver (or gray) and then paint the bottom side gloss black with some rattlecan paint. Will paint stick to powdercoating? What do ya'll think? Thanks.

Here are some photos of the car with all carpet/seats removed and cleaned out. The rust is minimal, but I will be sanding it away; treating it with rust remover; then covering with an undercoat/rust paint. http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a369/mikewags/Car/backview.jpg http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a369/mikewags/Car/driverview.jpg http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a369/mikewags/Car/flooroverviewdriver.jpg http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a369/mikewags/Car/rustdriver.jpg http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a369/mikewags/Car/rustpassenger.jpg http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a369/mikewags/Car/driverview.jpg here is the Naval Jelly working its magic on the Master…

After my trip to North Carolina, I was blown away at the condition of this car. Mark did a masterful job of taking care of her. I am now left how to bring her home. I have to find a good transport company to bring her back to me. I already miss her. But its good to be among the fold now. Here are some pics of my new pride and joy. words cannot describe the feeling of finally owning my childhood dream car. I look forward to giving it a good bath, claybar, wax, and polish. I will enjoy every single minute with this beauty!

I am strongly considering beginning my resto in the fall. Where on earth does one start? I have very little body work to do, she'll need paint. The biggest part of the resto is going to be in the interior and mechanical components. I will probably rebuild that engine, all new suspension. I'd like to replace my 4-speed with a 5-speed trans.

Well I am very disappointed and upset today, as we started stripping down the car prepping it for metal work and repair. What I found was a disaster area, the rust had eaten its way to the inner rocker panels, and the transmission tunnel. The passenger side floor had eaten its way up the firewall behind the battery, where the tail lights were was a brittle paper like substance instead of metal. The more I stripped the car down the worse it got and its to a point where it is not cost effective to bring this car back to working order or I guess I could say its beyond my military paycheck. To be blunt HLS30-293882 is dead, I will be stripping everything I can salvage for par…

Hello all I have a chance to purchase a 76 280 z (We are moving and must get rid of our '76 Z car. The engine had been disassembled by our son when in HS 7 years ago and put back together somewhat. We think that all of the parts are there. It has been on jack stands since 1992 in our garage and under car covers but there are several dents in the body due to carelessness in the garage. The engine has about 110,000 miles on it.) As you all can see the car has been on jack stands for 16 years. will it be super expensive to reserect a car that has sat that long? I also want to know how hard or easy the car would be to work on . I owned a 81 Datsun 310gx and it was very easy to…

Long story short. I've always wanted a Z. 240 was preferable but hard to come by around here not costing alot or too rusted to bother with. I recently sold my "beater" 87 Fiero GT and thought it was time to see about a Z. I got lucky. Just a few miles away a guy had 2 sitting near the road. No for sale sign or anything but I stopped to ask. He said he was selling them and had planned to put out an Ad next week. I took a look. Eh. A bit rusty and beat but not totally shot. Mostly all there and mostly all original. Two Z's. 1975 with a 5 speed from somewhere. And a 1981 Turbo automatic. Both rough but repairable. I ended up buying them both for $650. The 75 has a bottom…

I'm questionning the precision of my fuel gauge.. Full ( it means I can see the gas in the filler neck), it reads about a little bit over 3/4 of a tank. I drove the car close to 280miles and the gauge was still up about 1/4.. Any idea what could be the range of our cars?? I know it depends on the driving style, but let say cruising at 65 on HGWay, 4 speed, mild cam, and headers... Merci!:squareeye

I called Courtesy Nissan from Texas and they told me that this part #14863-E4600 is not anymore available. They suggest I could try Canadian dealerships that may have parts that are no longer available in USA. Any Canadian members here who could suggest where I could call? Thanks.

So far, performance wise - I have: 1. Added new Spark Plugs 2. New Wires 3. New Rotor/Dist. Cap 4. New Fuel Filter 5. New K&N Air Filter 6. New Oil and Filter I was thinking, "well, what can I do to get some more horsepower out of the car?" I'm not interested in making a racing car, although the thought of a turbo/intercooler system was considerable. Have any of you guys installed an exhaust turbo system in you're 280's? Any thoughts on the performance increase or overall idea of doing this? (worth it or not) - I do want to keep the ride pretty stock, although small modifications to improve gas mileage and HP aren't radical alterations to the car in my mind. Any feedb…

My A/T has been redone two weeks ago. A new transmission mount has been installed this week. It seems that I have weak engine mounts because my A/C compressor bracket is stuck on the left frame rail with no clearance as before. I have the new engine mounts but the transmission shop is charging me $200.00 to install them. It doesn't seems to be a big job. Has anybody has a safe procedure to do this work or is it better to bring the car to other shops to ask for a quote?
