Ok, Finally got most of the rust cut away and 90% of the fiberglass and here's the deal, someone did weld in new floors sometime ago. The question I have is do I need to take more of the metal out or is it fine to start the repair on the outside. Viewing from the inside you can see the welds and the floors are solid with no holes or rust, there is a little surface toward the rear. I was going to finish cleaning and then Por 15 the inside unless you guys recommend something different. Regarding the outside, I can still cut some more out but it would be solid floor to cut, I did get all the major rust and decay out. I havent air blasted all the cracks, etc yet but aft…

As some of you may know, I bought my latest project, a virtually rust-fee '71 240Z from the Phoenix Craig's List. Even though the car's weatherstripping and a lot of the interior is dry & brittle, I love the fact that it only has some very light surface rust. It also had a lot of mechanical work done to it like rebuilt engine, rebuilt transmission, new radiator, new bushings, new hoses, etc. The body has all the original metal and is all very solid with no replacement panels or bondo. I got a terrific deal on the car and the shipping was very reasonable. After checking out some more 240Zs available down in the desert, I was amazed at how cheap these cars are going…

Hi all, Well I just bought this 1972 Lime Green project. I basically bought it so my wife can join me on our Z outings and I really wanted to get a 240! The guy I bought it from had it listed on CL for $3499. I went to go look at it and I told him that he would never get that. My wife and both test drove and it runs like a rocket! Lot of pull, very powerful and no steering wheel shake. brakes are very good. Every light bulb worked except ONE license plate bulb. Has some rust issues (see my other thread in Body and Paint) but nothing horrible. I've already begun tearing out the interior and cleaning it. Had to clean up 35 years worth of spilled Coke, french fries and other…

Looks like it was a '76 280z =) In a game from Midway called "280 ZZZAP" http://kotaku.com/gaming/advergames/early-advergames-part-ii-322391.php There's a link at the bottom of the article to an entry that has a screenshot of the game (I haven't been able to find any video), but suffice to say I don't believe the Z makes an actual appearance in the game.

Well Today since I wasn't working or busy I decided to do a little maintenance and fire up the Z. But first I went to Autozone to pick up a fuel filter because my father let me know I needed one. luckily they had (one) in stock well I got back home and attempted to at least start her up and no luck. I sprayed a bit of starting fluid to help and all I got was a flicker no full run. So I kept trying for the past 1hr and no luck The battery is hooked up the plugs are in the right position because its been started before so whats the problem? While trying to figure out why she wont start I was looking at the carbs and the pictures from the Haynes manual of the engine and som…

Did any one else see the commercial on TV with what looked like an orange or red Z (don't know year) setting on blocks and had the interior removed and the wheels. I did not see all the whole commercial, it looked like it was for an insurance company.

Never stored a Z before. I assume it's jsut like storing the DeLorean (except that one will never rust) I have a car cover for it but I am scared to use it. My garage is not heated or insulated. My question is, if I use that cover when I'm not playing with her, is that going to trap moisture underneath and aid in rusting? Or am I being outrageously paranoid?

I think I should be happy, buy since I am a rookie when it comes to body work and structural things here's my situation. Yesterday I posted What would you do with the rust I found and the fiberglass covering it.......Well, after chipping away alot of the fiberglass I found SOLID FLOORS???? What kept throwing me was where the exterior rust was heavy I couldnt find where it came thru the inside, so I hacked away and this is what I found..See Photos. So, is it as simple as just removing this old "rust cover" or is the whole floor and rails still at risk. I am going to assume the PO fixed the problem from the inside, and left the outside alone and just glassed over it. S…
