    240Z Poster for car shows?

    Hi all. After seeing these views of my ‘73 240Z during Motorman7’s restoration of my ‘73 240Z, I decided to take a couple of years to show the car at Z events and some concours events before returning it to Daily Driver status and getting it dirty. 😄 We (Motorman7 and I) took it to 2019 ZCON Branson (2nd place to Zup in the stock category) and 2019 JCCS in Long Beach. After I brought it back home to N. California, I drove it to a Concours event outside Sacramento, where I was the only Japanese car there. There was a lot of interest in my Z from a lot of folks, but also a lot of ignorance about Datsuns from the bulk of the spectators. So I want to develop a poster ab…

    Tranny/Diff Ratio and RPM @ Speed 1 2 3

    I need some help here. I've put together a lot of information (below) on possible transmission/diff combinations I may put in my Z and need a little guidance as to what this all means. Here's what I think this is telling me...the wide ratio (77-79) is going to give me more off the line acceleration in 1st and 2nd with a long wait to $^!# to 3rd and poorer highway top end speed than the narrow ratio (81-83) tranny. That being said, the it gets messy when you start to look at different diffs in the mix.     It's truly amazing how tough addictions are to get rid of. Case in point, I've been patting myself on the back for the last couple of years in gradually getting past the Z voices in my head that urge me to look for Zs that need more work than my back can handle and parts that I have no place to store. I no longer check out CraigsList on a daily basis and 'had' settled into a peaceful retirement UNTIL today.     Inner Gear Shift Boot

    Is there some kind of retainer ring (etc) that holds the inner rubber shifter boot in place...? I see nothing in the parts diagrams. I am guessing that the shifter end gets smeared with grease and then installed with the pin and nylon bushings with the "E" clip. Then the small rubber boot goes over that. But shouldn't there be something that holds it in place...? Help...!

    Hello folks, After 23 years of ownership I am considering parting with my Z car. However, I'm a little stumped on how to determine a price point. I know original cars can bring good money on BAT and know basket cases can be had relatively cheaply but mine is neither. It has some rust and some repairs that I'm not happy with, but I don't believe any are detrimental.     Browsing the parts manual and came across these factory cylinder liners. Didn't realize they were a factory piece.     Hello As I mentioned in my initial post, my newly acquired 72 240Z is mostly original. The previous owner did switch out the alternator for a more powerful 60 amp version and he installed a new radiator, but an incorrect one (no shroud.) He included the originals in the sale. I am having the original alternator rebuilt and the original radiator recored. My question...Is there any reason that would prevent me from reinstalling these original (but refreshed) items. He also added the blue NGK plug wires. Excellent wires for sure but the blue just does not look right to me. I see black wires from Taylor sold by some of the parts vendors. Same question...an…

    Family photos Before The Move West

    Well, my '78 was loaded today and is headed for Phoenix. I got the race car done and ready to sell, so I finally took a few pics of my cars together for the first time. As for the fate of the race car, I *might* have a plan that allows me to keep it. A fellow Z racer in Atlanta might be willing to take the car back to his place and race prep it. When I want to race, I'll fly in and race it with him. That way, I don't lose the car, but I don't have to take it with me where I have no space for it.

    low rise lift

    thinking of getting one. I like the looks of the EZ car lift and the quick jack lift. one uses a power drill and screw drive, the other hyd. the EZ lift has a fixed horz spacing so limits it some, but seems simple and light. the quick jack requires a bit more as far as having to store a pump for the hydraulic fluid, and does not have as much lift. Curious to hear from those that have either of these.     Hello I am a new 240z owner. I won an auction on BaT back on 2/9 and the car arrived here just a couple of weeks ago. The car was the orange 72...pretty much all original and it was as advertised by the former owner. Attached is a photo as it came off the trailer. In the first couple of shake down drives most things seem in order. I have already acquired a set of stock hub caps and I am looking for a set of stock wheels...a 2/72 date would be really nice.     Datsun Fever

    I never owned a Datsun, but I’m an old guy that has had dozens of classic cars, foreign and domestic. My brother has a ‘77 Z back in the early 80’s. It was a total rust bucket, fenders flapped in the wind and exhaust poured into the car unless you kept the windows up and the fan on high. I’ve got a Porsche 914 that’s a project but saw an ad for a 280z that I had to check out. Has a crappy picture but says one owner, 60k miles. I go to see the car and I can’t believe my eyes. The car has no rust. The interior is super clean except the drivers seat vinyl. The guy who owned it was the service manager for Nissan Salt Lake. He traded in his troublesome 260z for the fi…
