Today is a hard day, saying goodbye to my beautiful 12/70 blue on blue Zed. It's been a great journey together, reliving my youth! 12 years of fun and adventure, even reliving my days of auto cross in parking lots around Kelowna B.C. This beauty won her class 2 years ago auto crossing at Castrol Raceway! The best part of owning this car was finding this great group of Datsun enthusiasts who are so willing to help anyone who shows an interest. I'll still lurk around this site, I'll live vicariously through all the great ownership stories and historical background that abounds here. Farewell to Dabluz!

Mechanical fuel pumps have been letting me down - I'm 0 for 3 in the last 15 months. (2 from RockAuto, 1 from NAPA). Thought I'd convert to electric and have done my reading on the basics on this conversion. I have the green/black wire pair near the tank, and found the main power supply at the console (I think). This is how I found it near the fuse block Black/White and thick green on the left- that's correct right? I have power to the big black/white at key position RUN. I thought that connector would be disconnected, but I'm surprised to find it connected to green/white, red and red/blue. I think those have something to do with the illumination of the ol…

I got back my 1977 280z from the body shop a few days back. My Z was there for the past 10 months while they worked on restoring her. When I got the Z back, I noticed that it idled roughly and would take 4 starts to get it going. When driving the Z, it would randomly hesitate when stepping on the gas pedal and it would have trouble holding the RPM’s steady. The Z ran perfectly and was gone through (new spark plugs, injectors, fluids, spark plug wires, timing and valve adjustment, etc) before sending it to the auto body shop. I went through two new tanks of gas, cleaned all the electrical connectors, changed the water temp sensor, fuel filter and put fuel system cleaner in…

When taking parts off of 50 year old Datsun’s, you may encounter some rusty bolts that need a little attention. Sometimes you just have to give up and break it off, then deal with the drill and tap that results. Perfectly normal. Some of the bolts on my “most likely to break off” list include the M8 pair at the bottom of the fender with the nifty little pointy tips that face upward, threading into an internally welded nut inside the rocker panel. Natural place for water to collect and make those threads just about solid. Well today I had a treat. The 75 280 that I’m parting out had two missing and already out, leaving just two that I had to remove. And surprise …

Hi all, I am wrestling with the rot of old age. I have a "trigger finger" in my right hand. It's looking like surgery is going to happen. My hands both are being invaded by arthritis which makes wrenching difficult if not impossible to do. As this is what gives me the most satisfaction it is becoming obvious that I may not be able to continue to maintain "the renowned Mr. Brown" in the way he needs. I've had him since 2005 and I don't want to see him go to someone who can't or won't maintain him to the standards necessary to keep him going. So, what to do? I hate to admit that I may not be able to continue in the Z world because my body is letting me down. I have a l…

This is an old episode apparently, but it's the first time I 've seen the show. It will hurt to watch if you're a fan of early and original. Sorry if you can't get it, I have youtubeTV and it's an option. Short story - somebody turned #89 in to a 432R tribute replica. It looks neat. But. Might have been posted already . https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4326864/ https://www.yidio.com/show/garage-squad/season-1/episode-3/links.html https://simkl.com/tv/52964/garage-squad/season-1/episode-3/

Received a package today with a couple gems inside. For the last month or so I have been chasing a lean condition just off idle on my 240 motor. Cold it was hard to start even while being choked, a condition I have not experienced since purchasing my Ztherapy carbs in early 2001. Trying all of the normal problem solving I finally did the “starting fluid test” and found that when I it sprayed on the rear side of the back carb the idle was effected. Closer examination I discover the shinny silver cap over the throttle shaft was missing and covering the hole definitely changed the idle. Engine ran good at 2500+ RPM. Steve at ZT called me back and we discussed the issues …

I want to get a digital coolant temperature signal to my ECU. Does anyone know of a temperature sensor that would work in the stock 240z sensor location? Apparently it's a M16x1.5 thread, and the only thing I can find to fit there is the original sensor. I haven't found any sort of thread adapters which I think would work there. I'm guessing my best bet is to use the stock single-connection sensor. I have a two-connection GM sensor with 3/8 NPT threads I believe, but I don't think I can get that to work.
