Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum and was hoping I could ask some pretty broad general questions. First, some background. I'm considering buying a 1973 240Z that I've found with around 60,000 miles. I've never owned (or driven for any amount of time more than a few minutes) a manual car which brings me to question number one: 1) Is it cruel and evil to buy this car and learn on it? Will it just explode under my unskilled hands? I am also far from a mechanic. I've taken seats out of my current car (a '90 Volvo 240) and replaced the seat foam, and taken apart a bit of the sunroof to prevent leaks, but that's probably the extant of my mechanic genius. So, second que…

Howdy All, I am in need of some help. I had pulled the hard (fuel, vapor, brake) line mounts and insulators, from my '72 and stored them in a large ziplock bag. Evidently, in strippping several of the same parts from '71-'83 cars, I have put them all in the same bag, and now have no idea which ones are original to the car. Has anyone got a set tucked away for or from plating/refurbishing that they could lay out the insulators for(I can figure out the brackets from the insulaotrs and position) a picture? I checked the my printed copy of the fische, FAST, and the parts book(Oct, '69-Dec, '72), and none of the diagrams show the insulators/brackets(not even partnumbers)…

I have read my Haynes manual, FSM and "How to Restore....", searched here and on Zcar.com about jack points. I just want to make absolutely sure about the rear location as most photos were ambiguous. The rear jack stand point is on the frame rail that the front/inner differential crossmember is connected. The stands should be pushed out to where the rail is intersected by another rail that curves up to the back. Correct? I am very paranoid about bending a structural element.

After a long time of waiting, almost three years of work (because I'm a teenager and funds are limited), she's roadworthy. Still a lot of work to do, but thanks for everybody who's helped me in the past, and a thanks for those whom will help me in the future. From This: To This:

Only a little over 6 hours left and no bids at the time of this post for this No-Reserve '73. Looks like the minimum $300.00 is all that it could take to buy it: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1973-DATSUN-240-Z-4-SPEED-PARTS-CAR-NO-RESERVE_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ6783QQihZ009QQitemZ190046003508QQrdZ1

Well I have some friends with some nice old school rides. N/A 84' Mazda RX7 N/A 88' Porsche 944 2.5L N/A 88' Toyota Supra 3.0L N/A 91' Mazda Miata 1.6L N/A 95' Mazda MX-6 2.5L (btw, all manual) I was wondering, how would my 240z compare to these other guys for 0 to 60 timings and then on the windy roads around here in Tennessee. I think that I would only loss out to the Supra for 0 to 60, but for around the corners, and the average speed that I would be able to keep around these corners, I am not sure how I would fair against the RX7, Miata and 944. Though I think that my only competition around the corners would be the 944 as it is light and has good power to push the…

Just looking through ebay parts for Zs and found a listing for two Zs in Chico California being sold without title as parts. Item number: 270050110124. Man, if I lived down that way I'ld have to size it up. What is the deal on sale without title? Abandoned cars? Stolen? SB

Quick question. Had an exhaust system fabricated for my 240z over the weekend. They (Midas unfortunately) created an exhaust system from the exhaust flange back. No catalytic. They did install a factory muffler ($75). They said the pipe cost $38. The muffler was $75. A connector bracket from the pipe to the exhaust flange was $25. All said and done they charged me $420 for it which to me sounds extremely high. I'm going to pick it up today and wanted to get other people's feedback on the price and get an idea as to if I got taken or not. Anyone have any feelings as to if $420 is high for an exhaust system on basically the back half of the car?

Anyone got $60,000 to spare? I would try to post some smug assinine comment about this one, but I just can't. It has me befuddled, shocked and confused. A little scared. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1974-Datsun-260Z-1-Of-A-Kind-St-Legal-Sports-Car_W0QQitemZ300041439554QQihZ020QQcategoryZ6188QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Just came in from the shed - replaced all the clear lines for the windsheld washer fluid, had a busted T and the lines had shrunk (causing the busted T) become stiff as a poker. Installed extra four inches with a loop to mitigate the shrinkage. Got it all working nice and went tucking in the wires I noticed that the resevoir was leaking - closer look - seems to be the motor/impeller. Any one seen this befor? Is there a fix? Please advise befor I order more gear. Thanks SB
