Never mind figure it out, I see there are two styles of fans, one for the 3 row crank pulley (zx power steering) vs the 2 row. I must have picked up a zx fan at a JY at some point, had it installed on my spare engine, and was using it for a comparison to my daily. The fan clutch is not an issue at all.

Car runs sweet until it gets to a specific temp, basically operating temp, then judders, RPMs slowly drop and it want to die unless I start giving it high RPMs. Even then it can be hard to keep alive. This problem happens like clockwork. If the weather is really cold and it takes longer to get to op’ temp, it will run longer. So it is nothing to do with distance or time, just temp. I’m thinking the water temp switch is supposed to operate with the EGR at op temp. So maybe it’s not working? I installed a lower temp water thermostat and as long as I kept driving and didn’t gun it or sit in much traffic, the issue could be avoided. I thought I had sorted the issue with…

I currently have some ARE Libre 14" wheels with Michelin 195/70/14 tires that are now 8 years old. I put about 1000 miles a year on the Z and was thinking about new tires. Michelin stopped making the tires I have. Two questions -- should I replace these 8 year old tires -- if so recommendations? thanks.

I was driving the Z around today and realized that the throttle pedal sits further back than the clutch and the brake (which seem to be resting together). Is this normal? Or is something bent? Its pretty substantial, it makes heel-toeing the car a bit awkward, the distance to WOT is also short due to this...

Can anybody give me some insight on F.A.R Performance. I started googling this shop because the PO had religiously brought it there for service and rebuilding. Turns out they had a few team members that were known in the Datsun racing circuit that, from what I can tell, raced on the BRE team. Here is a link to a page I found. It talks about Kirk Allegro, (same last name as me!)a parts man and mechanic on Pete Brock's BRE Team since 1970, Dan Parkinson and many others. http://www.datsun.org/fairlady/701FAR.htm I tried the number (650/968-2911) for FAR in mountain view but I only got a non-english speaking lady after about 12 rings. I am just curious if they would have…

Hey Z gang, I am planning on moving from Michigan to Phoenix this year and I just checked what model years require E Check in Maricopa county. I was really surprised to see that anything 1967 and newer must pass emissions. What are the Phoenix Z owners doing and do your cars pass? My Z has a 9.8:1 CR with stock EFI, an AZC 6:1 header and MSA premium exhaust. The car was sold as a Federal model for leaded gas and no catalyst when new.

I have a question concerning the metal radiator fan shroud. It is my understanding that the full metal shroud was added to a 240z when the dealer added optional Air Conditioning. True or untrue...? If true, was the small metal fan guard removed from the top tank of the radiator or was it left on...or was a different radiator fitted altogether...? Thanks for any insight...Ryals

JIDECO A picture in another thread posted today shows an electrical relay (rear window defroster, I think) with the manufacturer's name ('JIDECO') stamped on the side of the cover. I didn't recognize that company, but figured that the 'J' maybe stood for 'Japan' and the 'ECO' for 'Electric Company'. The 'I' and the 'D' were a puzzle, though, so I did a bit of on-line searching. The answer lay in the corporate website of another Japanese manufacturer, 'Mitsuba' (wiper motors) that came up in some of the hits I got using, 'Japan + company + JIDECO' as my search string. Hiding in the 'History' page on Mitsuba's site was this entry: 2007: The Jidosha Denki Kog…

As some of you know, I am in the process of moving from Michigan to Arizona. I have sold my house and am going through the mortgage process on a house in AZ. The move is from a transfer within Ford where I work. I am tired of the cold and the terrible roads, so I got a new job within the company at our Arizona proving grounds outside of Phoenix. The company will move me as well as two cars. I currently have five cars, so I sold one today. That leaves my wife's FJ Cruiser, my Porsche 911, my '78 280Z street car and my late 260Z endurance race car. The Porsche will by my DD along with the 280Z. That leaves the race car. I planned to take it out there, but the more …
