So, I'm new here, know little about the Z and want one (a 240)... I see many other people are here from AZ. What are some good resources within AZ? Any preferred mechanics (honest ones - I am mechanically ignorant and could be easily duped)? I am in Gilbert, working in Mesa. Are they quite expensive to keep up? I need an everyday driver. I'm not too concerned about the collectability, but I don't want any huge purchasing mistakes either. Thanks.

I posted a looking for opinion thread a few days ago for input on engine rebuild or swap, this is a addon to that in sorts. I have decided to rebuild the L24 engine in it. I was going to beef it up some but I am trying to id what has been done to the engine before I got it. Here is what I can find as of Number or markings so far, I don't know it was all stock but I can't seem to track down anything. I hope this is not too long.. Here goes. Block is origal numbers matching on my 71. Head is E88, has been ported Cam has Numbers on it as follows. So, I am becoming more and more interested in the 240Z. I am 97% certain that I would like one as my next car (current car is already for sale). Aside from this site, can you point me in the direction of a lot of good starter info? I'd also appreciate any of your observations about what to look for and/or avoid in a Z purchase. I am not very mechanical, so I'll be looking for something that has already been restored. I will need it as an everyday driver, but it's an easy drive to work and back. Thanks in advance for any and all advice you can give me. I am interested in the history, the ease of maintenance, etc (but mostly how to buy smartly). -Flamenco

I picked up this z a month ago and drove it a few weeks. Seemed to be a little weak so I decided to tear into a bit. It had an exhast leak at the head so I started there. Before taking the head off I got some low compression readings from 1 & 3. After taking the head off and putting some oil in the cylinders 1 & 3 leaked through. Now for the opions, I have access to a 305 chevy, should I rebuild the original engine again or put the money into a v8 swap. I am leaning to rebuilding the original to maintain classic z appeal. A freind of mine has the 305 and thinks it would be cheaper to do the swap. I would store the original engine if we do the swap. If I rebuild th…

Thinking about getting this car. The one major problem? According to the seller, the passenger side undercarriage is in pretty bad shape, and the passenger side frame rail needs to be replaced. I've seen this car driving locally, and it is beautiful. But don't you hate it when people restore cars that shouldn't have been restored? Well some people dreams are coming true with the sd card built in the the cars cd player deck and an ipod usb connection slot. These two features are great just hope some other brands have a system like this. Thought I'd ask around here to see if any of you fellow Z'ers possibly have any extra 77-78 hood vents that you may be able to sell. The drivers side one on my hood has one corner that sticks up as you can see in my photo. It's driving me nuts The heat/age finally got to it and the plastic piece broke which is common on these so I'm sure I'm going to have a hell of a time finding one. MSA offers those new style alternative ones but I'd much prefer the factory ones if I can find them. Thanks to whoever is able to help or offer tips where to find them.
