What are you guys using for polishing stuff. I think you can get a small polishing wheel at Sears, but what's a good motor to use? Probably something small, like a drill but I don't have any. I've been using a Dremel, but the wheel is too small for things like heat shields, and takes for ever. How many RPM is 'right?' I would make mine a benchtop mount, but it has to be detachable. Not too much bench room, but I can put it on a shelf. Any tips or pics? thx

I can't believe I haven't been on the site for nearly 2 years, but this good weather we're having has got me thinking about looking for a 240Z again. I had a '72 for my very first car back in the late 70's and rue the day I ever got rid of it, and I check out eBay once in a while, but am scared to take a chance on buying anything site unseen. All the good ones are apparently from down south and I live up here in Canada and haven't quite got the logistics of buying a car that way figured out, especially since I am no mechanic and wouldn't want to get in over my head with the wrong purchase. Any suggestions from any of you about how to find a Z in reasonable shape would be …

i had just about given up on the idea of ever building a Z for a track car but events are conspiring to change my mind. i have recently aquired a chevy 4.3L, which is the engine i have been contemplating for conversion. i am following up on a lead for a 6 point roll cage and i already have racing seats. i had seriously considered just building a ground-up tube frame car just because the performance level per cubic dollar is better. but then, that only counts if your buying new for each. since i've been finding some rather good deals lately, i might be able to put a track ready car together for >$5k. some of you might ask, "why a 4.3L chevy?" well, how does having…

Dear Lord, please let someone tool up for a reproduction of the chrome center trim for a 240Z tail light. That way, those of us who want nice taillights for our non-trailer-queens will be able to afford them. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1,1&item=110008839825&ih=001&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT

dual exhaust

Someone called me the other day and asked if I wanted a 240Z parts car. All I had to do was go get it. It was about 7 miles from my house. I pulled the exhaust off it and found that it was a true dual exhaust. Does anyone here recognize this setup or is it a custom job. I plan on having it soda blasted and using it on the 240 down the road. The only thing I will change is the mufflers. Thanks in advance.

I have had many different people tell me two different things so, I was wondering which head has better compresion? Not just compression but over all, the E31 or the N42? Personally I have a N42 and I'm looking for a E31. E31s or way rarer than the N42s so that doesnt help me. I dont know how the E31 operates because my brother and I havent put his in his block yet. I think the n42 overall is a very good head ( especially with a stage 2 camshaft). If you have had either or experience give me your opinion on what you think of a better head.:bandit:

What do you think is wrong with the rear suspension? I emailed the guy and he said it's a common problem with them. Never really heard of it but never had an older Z - a couple ZXs but not a Z. Here's the link: 75 280z on eBay Looks decent and I live less than 2 hours from him so maybe we can make a deal. Any thoughts in general on the car and specifically the suspension? Thanks all, ~Q

well a friend of mine showed me this iron cast cut out, its basically a y shape pipe that you install before the cat and comes with a switch that basically lets you run from normal exhaust for city streets and highways and then when you want you can switch it to run threw the pipes second open witch is just running open headers basically, i was just wondering if this would be safe or at least not harmful for my car, ive ran open headers before and it sounded really mean , i mean i think it should be ok without damaging it, i dunno if the lack of back power is gonna be an issue or not, i mean i running a newly built 280 z engine thats been bored out to a 300 liter and has…

Has any on ever heard of using a chevy thermostat cover on the Z thermostat housing. I know I have heard somewhere that it can be done. I just don't know if you use the 70's style or the later style. I ask because I am doing a JTR radiator change on my Z in the next two weeks or so, and instead of using a hose splicer or the JTR kit I would like run a longer hose to a swivel thermostat housing.

Actually two dumb questions. 1. What does the "Z" stand for? 2. What does "HLS30" stand for?

I have a E88 head I'm getting rebuilt. The shop is charging me $305 for the work minus the cost of the valve stems. Does this sound reasonable? DeeDee
