Hooray! I finally got the front of the engine off tonight. All I have to do now is reset the timing and put the whole thing back together. As some may remember, I set out on October 31st to change out my head gasket. In the process I forget to wedge the timing chain and sprung the tensioner. I haven't any mechanical skill or workspace to speak of, so I'd say 85% of the knowledge I obtained came from you guys here at this site. The rest came from my neighbor and a Haynes manual. I'd like to take this time to thank everyone who gave me advice during this project. I could not have done it without your know how. I'll probably have some questions as I get to putting i…

I have a new computer. I saved most of my stuff but I lost the web site for the L6 engine specs. It had several options for building the L6. Head, block, rod, piston, etc. It would instantly tell you what size the engine was, compression ratio, bore ratio, etc. It was very good info. Can you please give me this site? I need to put it back on my "favorites". It may have been an Australian web site??? :surprised

The time has come to buy a FSM for my early '71 Z. I've been getting by so far, but as I get deeper into it I know that I must have one. But I want to make sure I get what I need. (Ordering the parts CD today from Mike, also.) I know that the originals for the early cars came in at least two volumes - Engine and Body/Chassis. The reprints seem to combine these into a single volume. Is it still all there? I'm not fussy about whether or not my FSM is 'original', a reprint will do just fine - as long as it has the same content in it. Anyone out there compared the original and reprints? And if the reprint is OK, are there any better places to get one than from MSA?

Here's my issue guys: I am rebuilding my '77 280Z (which is a super solid car, the floor plan is perfect!) and i need to replace some sheetmetal (front fenders, rocker panels, and lower rear fenders behind the wheels). I have the dough right now to buy all sheetmetal I need except front fenders from Motorsport. I am buying my fenders from www.zbarn.com. However, I found a guy close to the house that has two Z's that he would sell together, but not separately. They are both 280's and one is a 2+2. He will NOT separate. The 2 seater is a good car, but it has been sitting for about 5 years without a drivers window, and the floor is completely gone, but the body is solid…

Hey Guys, howdy howdy. I noticed that POR15 sells engine enamels, and I was thinking of giving their product a shot, cause everything I've bought from them has been gold. I want to get the best match, but I'm not concerned about exactness in color. Since I'm dumb when it comes to American blue colors, which of these would be a good match for the 72 240z block? Cadillac Dark Blue Chevrolet Blue Chrysler Blue Ford Blue Ford Corporate Blue Ford Medium Blue These are from the options they have available for enamel colors. Once again, I'm not looking for exactness; just very similiar so anyone (not a judge at a show) would think it looked nice. Thanks for your opinions on whi…

If you own a 240Z and live in a state which does not require emissions testing for your car, have you chosen to keep the whole evap. tank / reservoir with attendant fuel lines intact, or to eliminate them? And why? Regards, Gary S.

Famed Primadonna Designer/Builder Jack Atkinson appears to be back in the saddle (or Recaro, as it were) again. Jack, and his wife Yolanda designed ,and built the wild 240Z based Primadonna cars of the late seventies. Well the bug bite again! Jack has just completed a new car based on a mid 90's 300zx convertible. Having personally seen the car, my comments would start, and end with "WOW!!". Wide body modifications included widening the core support for correct headlight placement. Combined with other details, the package projects a factory Supercar look. A huge ground effects diffuser in the rear compliments the added width the wide body creates. Though more s…

noticed this more when car is cold (before first drive). 77 280,5 speed, mostly stock that I know of. worst when temp is COLD outside, you can push in the clutch, start the car, put tranny in nuetral and let out the clutch and 2 things happen. #1 as you let out the clutch the engine rpms will drop 200 or 300 rpms like there is a load on engine and #2 if you dont have the brake on the car will actual try to creep forward with the clutch disengaged and the tranny in nuetral. I do think that the tranny was filled or at tleast ALOT of LUCAS GEAR OIL used in it not positive thou! Any Speculations????

I once had a set of NGK wires on my 75 280 that were clear. I was wondering has anyone ever heard of these and if so does NGK still make them? I would like to have a set for my 76. Its a cool look to watch the spark travel to each plug. Just wondering if anyone has heard of this..

I got a call yesterday from Eric, the owner of Zparts.com. He needs to liquidate some of his large stock (9 vehicles, fenders, hoods, hatches, etc), and wanted to know if I wanted first dibs. The problem is, I don't have a cost-effective way to get the parts to my barn. Are there any members close to Richmond, CA available to go and look at what he's got? Maybe a report on the quality of merchandise can make it easier for me to decide. Here is a link to the page where he explains everything: http://www.zparts.com/ads/relocation/relocation_sale.htm Thanks for the help! Mat
