Hi all, Seems the exhaust section doesn't see a lot of traffic so I am posting this here. Back story; I picked up a complete Spirit Garage exhaust system header to tailpipe and the header is a bad choice for a LHD car. There is significant impact to the steering shaft from the first 2 primaries and the profile of the primaries are not a good fit for SU's with a heat shield. Painful and expensive lesson learned but I am ready to move forward as opposed to spending a bundle with someone trying to cut and weld this header. Anyway it seems the Fujitsubo header (PN 510-15037) is the logical fit as a replacement option that will clear the steering shaft easily an…

When I have a winter project planned in the garage my poor Z has to spend the winter in the storage tent, I don't like doing in because of all the dust and mice. So this year I bought a big roll of the white shrink wrap that they use for winterizing boats and now she's all snug for the winter. I could have worked all the wrinkles out but I didn't see any reason.

Came across this video on you tube. Not sure if anyone here is involved with this car but what a find! Only 350 miles is incredible! Hard to believe there are still cars like this hiding out there. https://youtu.be/CZlIl74b0Ss

So, I'm still redoing my interior and hooking up the original radio. See pic. I've figured out the wiring for the radio, but it's missing the slide switch. But! There is this old toggle switch under the dash and it looks like according to some googling that it fits an even earlier model 240z. So, I'm confused. Looking for a slide switch that inserts into that radio slot in upper right. But also wondering why this other antenna switch is in my car. Build date was 10/72. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

One of my quarantine projects was to clean out my files of old documents. While sorting through some old car receipts, I stumbled across an invoice from December of 2003 for a complete NOS exhaust system purchased from Courtesy Nissan. With a $70.00 freight charge, the whole system set me back $297.48. Given what a NOS exhaust system would run for today, I should have bought a couple more and sat on them 😉 I recently saw a Datsun 240Z used parts ad for a pair of used Koito headlights with an asking price of $300.00, which got me to thinking: Anyone else have old receipts or recall the prices for parts that today would require the sacrificing of a ki…

Hey all, Been away from Z's for a while, but, have owned 3 in the past. My best (kicking my own arse) "son you won't believe the car I sold" story is my 1970 240z which I owned in the 80's for about 5-6 years. I sold it to support my racing habit. I don't think it went to a good home, so I don't think it may have survived. Anyone know of HLS30-00798? It was white with the blue interior. It was in pretty good shape when she left me. Also had a '73 in orange that I picked up and fixed up/flipped, and a 1978 280 2+2 that my father purchased new. He drove that car into oblivion! He loved it! Anyhow, I will dig up some pics and post them up later.

Hello everyone, I'm at the state of getting the car for the smog check and would like tips and suggestion to get the car smog check pass the first time around. History of the car: Long story - short and for lack of better words, I don't consider the car is restored to its glory days nor do I consider myself as car restorer. I am at best is improve the car from a none-ops, none working to operational, working state base on my standard. If you saw some of my posts, you'll notice I'm more of a monkey see monkey do without a brain sort of speak. Grease elbow at best and lot of times did stuff wrong or reverse. What I did to the car. E…

Hi All, New member here. To make a very long story, short...back in the late 80's I bought a '73 240Z from a college kid. I ran it up to about 130mph on a test run and blew the rings. I didn't really care because I was going to do a full mechanical restore anyway. At the time I had a big farm in central MO. I bought a donor 240Z of the same yr. I put the donor engine in the original Z only to discover the block was cracked. At that point I decided to take the car to a local restoration shop. Farm was sold shortly after, fortunes lost and the car remained at the restoration place. I sent them money as I could. Father of the enterprise died, son took it over. In m…

Predictions on closing bid? https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1971-datsun-240z-160/ It is interesting to see these cars make their way out into the light after storage for many years. With the high number (relative) of series I cars that were made, I am sure there are more still hunkered down in storage.

It's in all the car mags https://www.motortrend.com/news/nissan-z-proto-first-look-review-400z-preview/ https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a34016940/nissan-z-proto-revealed/ I'd like to see one with the roof the same color as the car. I do like the lines, very smooth / subdued.

I'm looking at some wheels but they require hub-centric rings. I've always been reluctant to use wheels with spacers or rings, so I have no experience with this. Do those of you with experience find wheels that require hub-centric rings to perform well and reliably? Thanks for your thoughts based on experience.
