Hello all. I am new to this forum and I have decided to start off my first entry (question) with what i feel is a very rookie question-- Why does an L28 make less HP than a L24? To my understanding, the fuel-injected L28 makes less HP because of "an increase in smog emissions requirements(back in '74)." So, I assummed that removing all of the egr and smog stuff would make for an immediate HP gain. But, I read that this in fact does not icrease HP and could even lead to a decrease in HP. Any info relating to this would be greatly appreciated since the answer to this question has evaded me for so long. BTW, I currently do not own a Z, but I am planning on purchasing one soo…

I've searched the internet and the books I have but not been able to find much other than quarter front shots. I would like to see what the whole paint scheme was/looked like, especially the rear of the car. This is one of the best shots I've found below with #0006 in the middle, but as you can see it's only an upper front view. Anyone got any others?

Would anyone happen to have an extra harmonic balancer for a 78 280z, I broke mine trying to get the dang thing off. The only place I could find one is motorsportZ and they want a little too much and I cant afford it. I am willing to pay for it and shipping any price just not too expensive. I have paypal if anyone has a paypal account if not I can pay by money order or check. Please let me know, it is the only thing I need to get my engine back together. I just need the timing marks to be in the right spot, I am pretty sure 75-78 will work. Thanks, Shane

Some of you may know about my restoration of my 71 240z. It was my dads and he gave it to me to restore. Last week I finished stripping it and It went to the shop to have the engine, tranny, and exhaust removed. Also all of the lines and stuff were remove. Right now it is waiting to be sandblasted for monday. The guy said the sand he uses is really fine so it will be ok. I got some other parts back from the blaster and realized blasting wont take off ziebart =( so I have been cleaning up those parts by heating up the paint with a torch and scraping it off and using a wire wheel with my drill and dremel. When the car is back from sandblasting, I will clean up like I did wi…

Just wanted to put out a heads up for anyone wanting to buy a BRE rear spoiler for their Z. I ordered one from MSA and it came with a mounting template made from cardboard for drilling the mounting holes. They are not accurate; atleast on mine they were an inch off. I fortunetly didn't trust them and came up with my own method off marking the holes to be drilled. My spoiler also didn't sit flush on my car and had them send me another spoiler. When I mounted it in the same holes I drilled from the other spoiler it sat completely ****-eyed on the car. That tells me that they are not all exactly the same even though the template is.I have to say that I had some previous body w…

Some of you will recognize me and what happened this week to my car and injuries during an errand for parts to fix a u-joint problem at a nearby local store. For more details about the story look at my last posts. I need advise on some subjects because my car is appraised for a replacement value of $18,000.00 and covered by my insurance company. I have been injured (broken hand with serious surgery next monday) and not at fault. The accident happened the 9/14. One more car is involved with very serious damage but no apparent personal injury to the other driver. The faulty driver maybe seriously injured, having left the site by ambulance. 9/16, a letter of the faulty driv…

I took some pics w/the rewinds on the 280z and my 300zx with it. Im still new to the datsun Z culture, but this car is proof that it was the best of its era and still can look good next a z32 which is still my favorite. The 280z is closing fast on the z32 in my eyes, but without the z32 I would have never though about buying a 280z, it introduced me to the Z life(as I call it since it consumes mine).Enjoy, nothing spectacular in terms of views or angles just some quick pics. My favorite last:

I have a 1974 260z with a 77 280z motor. Where should I begin the restoration process? My goal is to have a nice interior, paint job, and motor. I am not looking to spend alot of money. The car is rust free right now and the motor is running pretty good. The interior is shot. Should I start on the inside and work my way out? I don't plan on driving this until its done, or at least close. To me it seems like if the inside was redone and smelled nice it would be so much easier to finish the rest. What do you think is the best way to tackle it? I just dont want to do a piece from the inside and then something on the engine and then a little on the body. I woul…
