i finally found a car for me. Its a 73 with round tops. anywho, i am planning to drop the gas tank and see whats inside. I expect it to be filled with sludge and rust and who knows what else. From searching and reading the forum for the last few months i know all about the options of gas tank renu, por15 kit, or having a radiator shop boil the tank. However, i havent seen any one talk about prices for a new used tank. ZnZX in houston claims to have several used tanks in excellent condition for sale. What would yall expect the going rate for a gas tank to be? i assume, since most people seem to spend 100-150 to get their tank boiled a new used excellent condition t…

Hi everyone, I'm still a fair way off finishing my car but I am always trying to think ahead. I am trying to decide what to do about the factory aircon fitted to the car. To get it up and running by law the R-12 refrigerant must be changed to R-134a. This in itself is not a problem as it is the law in this large round green house we all live on. My main concern is the COST of getting it done, as opposed to how cool (temperature, not me) I want to be while driving. As the car is only going to be driven during the late spring, summer, early autumn months and a lot of those days are going to be hot days. How many of you have converted to R-134a and how effective is the conve…

Ya know... I'd be willing to be that this question gets asked relatively frequently, but I can't seem to find it anywhere, so I'm just going to ask it anyway. I'm sort of curious, other than the prefix "280" what do the 280Z and 280ZX have in common, and what don't they have in common? I'm looking around, and from what I can tell, the ZX is bigger (longer and wider?) and has a different engine than the the plain ol' Z. What I'm wondering is, is there a distinct advantage/disadvantage to having that 'X' on there, or does it not really even matter? I've noticed that there seems to be little mention of the ZX on most 'Z' communities, indicating that the differences between Z…

Hi, I have come to the realization that I will not rest until I have an early Z. I live in Canada where they are scarce. The winters and rust ate them up. I am considering a '73 out of the Northwest USA. It has the original '73 carbs. Is this a big enough issue to not buy it and keep looking for a '70-'72 Z? The '73 is orange (sweet!) and the interior is A-1. No cracks in dash, etc. One rust spot on the rocker from what I am told. I am not looking for a fully restored car, just a nice clean driver. There is also a nice '76 Z on eBay right now. Any +/- about buying a 280 over a 240? I have also found a really nice '72 in San Diego. Original Cali car with no rus…

My 1972 240z has the original windshield in it. When the sun shines it looks cloudy. I think it is sand/dirt pitted. Has anyone used the windshield polishing kit from Eastwood ? Or any other polish for that matter. - Jeff

Hey guyz!! I am in a sticky situation, and in need of some advice. I know it may be hard to get an unbiased opinion with the choices, but I'm sure some of you are familiar with the MR2. To be specific, the two cars are a 1991 N/A MR2 that I currently drive, or a 1971 240z that is very complete and in just as good condition, aside from needing a paint job. I have had the MR2 for about a year, and its an awesome car, but I can't get the Z out of my head. I would only be able to keep one for very long, with both being 2-seaters. I know it will come down to me choosing in the end, but this is the site whose opinion I take as seriously as my own. Is there a way to compare the …

AC recharge
by mriz- 5 replies

The shop wants about $168.00 to check and recharge my Z32 ( 280 is cool as ever) system which cools to about 75 degrees. Sounds like alot to me, in autozone I saw those cans for $14.00 which you can recharge yourself but sounds too easy of a fix or too good to be true. Add ac to the list of things "I know nothing about".
