I dismantled the speedo drive on the side of the gearbox to fix the oil leaking out of it and put it back together - then nothing - speedo no work anymore I have since pulled it apart 3 times thinking that the cable was not engaging into the back of the speedo. Still no work! Yesterday, I took out the drive from the gearbox and felt the cable engage into the back of the speedo (thought I did anyway) but still no work. I have checked the cable and it is in one piece, the teeth on the drive look ok. Is there anything else I should be looking for???? Biker

I was watching Full House tonight and a Valvoline ad came on. My brother said, have you seen this before? (he must have) I said, no that I had not and I continued to watch. The add went like this: There is a guy who makes automotive art, and the ad shows him airbrushing something and painting a picture. The ad shows his studios and other stuff. All of a sudden WHAM!!! he is checking the oil on a beautiful orange 240z!!! I could not believe it!!! My heart actually raced! There was a great shot of the engine, and it ended with the guy standing in between his orange and white 240zs. He said something about how they were works of art, or something of that nature. I…

I was resetting the trip odometer on my 280Z yesterday when I refueled, and for some reason, the cable inside got all bound up and wouldn't turn. It worked fine and turned freely until yesterday. I was on the second time around and the numbers are all stuck on 4s now. Is there a fix for it? Doesn't want to turn backwards and loosen. thx

Hi, I have been lurking on this board for a while. From what I have read it seems to be a great bunch of enthusiasts! I currently have a S2000 and want to get an early Z. My dad had one when I was young and I love the classic looks and performance of these cars. I live in Canada where winter and rust got most of the Zed's up North. Finding one in good condition is difficult if not impossible. My question is; am I being realistic in looking for an early Z for between $4000 and $8000 USD? I would like an original car with no mods. What I ultimately want is a nice summer driver with good paint, no rust, original interior and some 15" Rewinds. I have some mechanic…

Hey guys- Very new to the forum...seen a lot of good info here. I'm trying to decide how much to pay for a Z I found - it's a 1978 280ZX, 114k miles. Body/interior are in mint condition. Engine has been either rebuilt or replaced, and has 10k miles on it. Clean title. Now, I haven't gone to look at the car yet for myself...a friend found it for me. It seems the pre-1974 cars are more desirable for weight/handling reasons. But considering all, what would be a really good deal on this car? What are the main things to look for (big ticket repairs, things that tend to go out, etc.)? Links to buyers guides are fine...no need to reinvent the wheel. But it would be nice …

I tried to post a direct link to Home Depot website. It does not work It is the Lincoln Electric Weld Pak 3200HD Wire Feed Welder Model K2190-1 You can visit the website but I will just copy the specs here too. "Lincoln Electric's Weld-Pak 3200HD handles a huge spectrum of flux-cored or MIG welding jobs -- from auto-body repairs to farm fixes to around the home chores. You just can't buy a 120V welder with a more versatile range! The Weld-Pak 3200HD comes ready to weld mild steel with self-shielded flux-cored wire right out of the box. Also included is virtually everything you need to MIG weld mild steel. Just add a cylinder of shielding gas. Rounding out the package is …

yesterday my car lost power as it would when you run out of gas. i unplugged the fuel hose from the fuel filter and nothing came out when i tried to start the car. then i unplugged the hose before the fuel filter thinking that maybe the filter was clogged. still nothing. im convinced its the fuel pump but i was told it could be a problem with the relay or some electric problem. how can i test this?

For those that will (at some point) attempt to fix their wipers so they work properly, this tip is for you. Leraned the hard (and slightly damaging way) just for you. I removed my wipers the other day to clean and re-lube the pivots coming through the cowling. No problem, it's a pretty easy process. The catch comes when attaching them back to the wiper motor. BEWARE!!! You can (and I did) mount them up 180 degrees out of sequence. If you do, when you turn your wipers on they go shooting across your cowling and your hood. Not a good thing for fresh paint like on my car....:tapemouth So the tip: test the operation of your wipers before you put the cowling back …

Allright, I'll be perfectly honest. There is a 1977 280Z for sale in my neighborhood that has me absolutely entranced. Here's what I know about it: It's an almost finished restoration (he claims, 90%, what that other 10% entails I do not know). It's a five-speed, and a "strong runner." New, red paint with supposedly, a new interior. I haven't checked the mileage on it, he wants a soft (meaning, a negotiable) $2850 for it. I'm 18 years old, and I guess you could say I haven't been 'looking for' a car, I've just been keeping my eyes open in case something I like comes along, and the Datsun 280Z definitely falls into that category. What I'd like to know is, do you guys think…

For those of you who are familiar with the Series 1 ball joint have discovered that in 7/70 Nissan changed the size of the ball joint from a 11mm thread to a 14mm thread. Since the 11mm thread is has not been available from Nissan for at least 20 years, this change requires the Series 1 owner to replace the steering knuckles to accommodate the 14mm size. Naturally, this change affects the originality of a restoration project. I have been approached by an aftermarket vendor who has approximately 16 NOS of the 11mm thread ball joints in a warehouse. He is interested in selling as one lot for $75.00 per unit. (Comparable aftermarket price of the 14mm thread is approximat…
