I just picked up square, red "FUEL" warning light that fits in the square slot below the radio in the middle of the center console between the blue "REAR DEFOGGER" and the red "FASTEN SEAT BELTS" warning lights. I'm happy to be able to remove the blank plate I have in that spot and place that "FUEL" light. I realize that it will be redundant but I rather have the non-functional warning light than the blank plate. The question is: What model Z had that red "FUEL" light in that spot? I've looked at every picture I could of all the different Z center consoles and can't find one with that warning light.

I've been searching for an Ohio 1974 license plate to go with my '74 260Z. In Ohio, you can use a historic license plate or an old license plate that matches the year of your car on a historic vehicle. Right now there is one on e-bay "Z N" as in Z'n or Z'ing If anyone see something better let me know. I'm looking for something closer to 260Z. In the next year or two I'm going to have to sell my Z and I'm at a loss at the best way to sell it. I don't want to mess with ebay, too many bad experiences there, but I would prefer to minimize dealing with people and all the fun that entails with questionable test drives, lowball offers, no shows, etc. It is a daily driver and knowing each and every imperfection I'd give it about a 6 out of 10 so it isn't high end auction material. Anyone dealt with classic car consignment places? Any other suggestions? In my entire 50+ years I've sold 2 cars and one was to carmax so this isn't a process I'm used to doing. Most of the time I drive them until they have to …

Its SOO BORING driving around here, but I saw a youtube video that inspired me to use a new route when I take Dat Boi out to visit the gators in Mount Dora. Green Mountain scenic hiway, from winter garden to mount dora. I took the suburban so my gal could go (she doesn't care too much for Dat boi, prefer the rolling living room). Anyway it was a pleasant ride and has some actual hills to go up down and around (prob the hilliest spot in all of florida). So sometime next week I think I will take a long lunch and take the Z along that route. Its pretty slow (max was 55, some speed traps were seen) but that's fine, In fact I would like to make the next cross countr…

Hey, during the last couple of years restoring my 240Zs I made many mistakes and learnt a lot. I am going to add all these little things to this topic. Especially topics which are unclear to many of us (or sometimes there is wrong info around). There is no specific order. Please feel free to add your notes! I will add some keywords for all the guys who find this topic via Google.. 280ZX dizzy: The stock late 1971 240z tach WILL work although it is current sensing S12/S13 gearbox: A series I drive shaft is around 35mm shorter than a series II driveshaft. You will be able to install the early one with the SR/KA gearbox, however the gearbox tail shaft …

This thread will be historical, being mostly a repost of content that was originally posted on a personal website that no longer exists. So don't expect anything new. I just thought it might be mildly entertaining for some to review. I tried doing this as a blog, but don't like how that works. Please bear in mind that since it's audience originally was not necessarily people already familiar with 240Zs, some of the descriptions and such will be worded as though the reader is not already as informed as most of those on Classic Z Cars is, and not as detailed as it might have been if I had posted it here while it was happening. I also probably won't respond much to…

Just curious to what drivability issues come along with a failing fuel pump? The mechanical fuel pumps have been around for a long time, and I know some leak oil. But what type of problems creep in with a bad fuel pump when driving? Thanks Bob

I own a few (OK more than a few) older muscle cars but always loved the Z - so I just bought a 1971 Z sight unseen and had it delivered this morning. Ya, not a good idea to buy a car without looking at it, especially an early Datsun but I took a chance. Other than leaking gas from the gas line it ran not bad - oh and the turn signal is totally pooched (already ordered a new one, as he told me about it). The one issue it does have is some minor perforations in one - possibly both rear frame rails of the car. Have most people just replaced the whole rail or can you pretty easily cut out the small section and replace the metal? Seems to be isolated in one area right tow…
