Octane/lead sub

I have looked at some past posts regarding octane and the use of lead sub. Seems to be a variety of opinion. I am looking for a general all purpose answer. My car is a '72 with an L24 engine stock with original valve seats, etc. Am I safest in using the highest octane rated gas - 91 or 92 - and lead substitute? I love the car and would like to improve the performance a bit. I am not interested in jackrabbit starts, racing, or high end speed. What I do like is the acceleration in 4th at around 60 mph. At the risk of sounding naive or lacking knowledge in such things, is there a simple way to increase that acceleration?

I dislike my painted black windshield wipers so I am thinking about stripping the paint back so they're stainless (?) steel again. My problem is, how do I do it! Theyre so intricate that I think the only way to get all the paint off is if I could soak them in some sort of acid which would just strip the paint right off. Does such a liquid exist? Also, the whole thing is black. Originally, was it all unpainted or was the bit which attaches to the blade painted black? Basically, what should it look like? Thanks for your time!

Hey, everyone. I've had my 1973 240Z for about one week now and have some basic questions. The windshield washer fluid sprayer is not working. I think I need a new pump. Where do you guys get parts for your car? Where can I get a repair manual? I have the original wheels with the old-fashioned hubcaps. I immediately lost one of the hubcaps during a vigorous drive. Where can I get another one? Thanks!

Hi all, A bit of a random question I know but perhaps somebody's got a clue? With my 1973, when I purchased it, I received just about all receipts since it was bought including the original invoice from Universal City Datsun along with the salesperson's business card... But cooler still is that also included is what I figure to be the original Nissan shipping record of when the Z left Japan and was sent to the USA for sale.... My weird/random question is that even though both of these items are neatly packaged away in an envelope in a hanging folder in a filing cabinet in the garage, and so far away from the sun, the ink is still fading on them. The shipping invoice is th…

speed cameras 1 2

Mike mentioned Autralia's use of speed cameras in another post...don't get me started. They are termed "revenue raisers" nowadays and most state governments plan their yearly budgets to include a healthy few million $$ from these devices. Interestingly, the powers that be contnue to quote statistics ad-nauseum about how the cameras have reduced the accident rate. As we who have befallen the speed cameras can tell them, the cameras only give an accurate picture on straight, flat, wide, open roads in good lighting conditions when there is only a single car in view. In other words, positive identifications of a car exceeding the speed limit can only be made in ideal (read…

Alohas all, Just wanted to ask what seems to be the average overall cost of restoring a Z to decent daily driver condition. I know it depends on what the starting condition of the car is, but let us just say its your average Z that's seen better days. I'm a VW guy right now, but I'm thinking about getting into Z cars and just want a ballpark figure of what I COULD spend. mahalos, Joel
