I've always loved the 240Zs but the thought of restoring one have only recently been financially feasible. I must admit that I don't know much about them and as you can tell...do not own one at this time. I am currently looking for a 70', 71' 240Z and want to spend about $5k in acquiring it. After that, I will restore it slowly based on my budget and available funds. Any advice would be much appreciated. Also, does anyone know of any 240Z car club in Northern California? I live in the SF Bay Area, and would really like to meet and talk with someone who has done the restoration. Thanks.

I'm a new member here, and currently do not own a 240Z. About 8 years ago I sold my emmaculate 280Z and have always had the itch to get another one, but this time I would like to get a 240Z, one of the reasons being I won't have to worry about smog here in CA. I basically just want to get back in the Z circle again, and this looked like a good place to start. I currently have an old Chrysler that I'm willing to sell in order to purchase a 240. Basically I want a car that's in okay condition, I'm willing to slowely put money into an engine rebuild and body work, but I don't want to start off with a piece of junk. Does anyone have any advice on places to look and what price…

Has anyone with a '70 or '71 Z changed to a 4 or 5 speed transmission from a '72 or later Z? I have a '71 Z restoration/project car where the previous owner replaced the original 4 speed with what appears to be a '72 or later 4 speed. Due to the different locations of the shifters, he cut the center console by the ashtray (and the ashtray itself also) to eliminate the interference problem with the later transmission. I thought this could be remedied by changing to a '72 center console - but after getting one from a junk yard to check the fit, I found that the shifter is not centered in the opening of the '72 console. When I put the transmission in 1st or 3rd gear, the …

-- Group Message from Paul Henley <Paul@henley2.freeserve.co.uk> -- Hi Nigel Like you, untill I started my restoration, I was a beginner at doing basically anything wth cars. Like you , I asked others for advice, who knew about such things. The main response I got, was ,that to do a proper, full , 100% resoration, then a "rotisserie" was a must. So I borrowed one from a friend (it was hand made and was last used to hold a Triumph Stag) and modified it to suit my Z. Basically the shell of the car is suspended at the front and rear of the car. The two pieces of the rotisserie are bolted to the front and back of the car. At the back I have used the cars existing holes, …

I have a 5/70 240 that I bought cheap, but it was sleeting and getting dark. The I gotta have it took over. Problems: L88 head, air conditioning - not wired up but plumed who knows how, fair amount of strange wiring, lots of little rust bubbles under paint, Home made front reinforcement on left front frame, the rest of the frame rust disconected on that side, right side stock but mashed towards the rear, later model 240 dash retrofitted (perhaps for AC). Really want a '70. Rest of car looks fairly good, clutch feels great, good SU's, glass, suspect good engine (have some stalling problems(electrical or fuel lines I think), but when it runs it runs great. Suspect n…

Z Zoomers, Early today I looked at a 1970 Z offered in the San Jose Auto ads: Datsun 70 240Z Gd condition. Blue $4600 tel. 408 985 2046. The car is a very fine early 70s Z #1495. This car has been in the same family since new and looks like it has original specs. It's being sold as the owner is dying of cancer. The family are mechanically minded and have kept the car in perfect running order. They have all work orders not done by themselves. The car was garaged for many years and has only 84000 miles. The dash is without a crack. The car was painted one year ago. Its a beautiful metalic mediterranean blue. There is some rust on the passenger floor and under the battery bu…

I am trying to find date of manufacture of my 240 from its HS 30 serial no. I have been told that although car was registered in early 73, it could still be Tax exempt in UK if it can be proven to be manufactured before 73. Has anyone done this before or can anyone help. Thanks Lee Welsby

I have a '72 240 in close to perfect condition. It has 69,000 miles and I have redone the entire suspension (bearings, 4 piston calipers, new wheel cylinders, poly bushings, tokico shocks etc. etc.) So now that I have a decent suspension and braking system, I am interested to know what can reasonably be done with an L24. I am considering conversion to HEI electronic ignition (have the parts), a header and 2-1/2 inch exhaust and maybe a cam. But, again -- what can I reasonably do to this car? By reasonably I mean without sacrificing drivablity. What kind of power can I get from an L24 and what is the best way to go about getting it. The car is a toy and not used as …
