Hello, As a number of folks have asked about my car in my 5 speed for sale thread I thought I'd start a little build thread. A little over six years ago I found the car in Smithers, B.C. and arranged to buy it. The seller has accumulated a bunch of spares for it as he had been storing it in his garage for a number of years waiting for his son to get old enough to restore the car together. Unfortunately, his son did not care for cars at all- bad for Dad, good for me. Having shipped the spares pallet, he drove HLS30-10714 3 hours to Prince George and met me there. We did the deal and I brought the trove home to Calgary, where I lived at the time. Note t…

I have some yellow zinc parts on my 240 restoration, notably both halves of the hood latch, throttle bell crank, and some nuts and bolts. I would like to get the car as close to original as practical and understand that there are other bits and pieces that should be done, notably the under-hood trouble light, but there are others I'm unsure of. Any advice would be appreciated respecting: Coil holder, fuel filter clamp, door latches, hood support strut, hose clamps, brake line clamps, under-hood fuel lines, fuel rail, engine hoist attachments, and the tube that runs around the back of the head to provide heated water to the intake manifold. And any I might have mis…

So, I thought I’d start a new thread about this topic since is only partially related to my rebuild. So I emailed Advanced Distributors about rebuilding one of my ZX distributors. Below is the guy’s response. I’d like you hear what you think about his comments. “Hitachi distributors start at $200, and I can only rebuild them if it hasn't been through another rebuilder. Its common to see Cardone rebuilds from your local auto parts store that will never again work properly - permanently damaged in the cleaning process. The last 9 of 10 280Z distributors here couldn't be rebuilt either because they were damaged by another rebuilder or used WAY beyond the point of…

So, here's a new 280Z headlight relay wiring diag. that needs some vetting by experienced minds. As will become apparent, this is no quickie solution, as it entails reversible modifications at a couple connectors and a few hard-to-source parts. On the plus side, it addresses issues like low-amp switching at the rotary combination, using the (E) power source for relay actuation, and allows keeping the relays inside the cabin. Plus, it includes the Hi-Beam indicator on the Speedo and it frees two spots at the fuse panel (fog lights?). Note: the fuses are sized for stock incandescents, but the wire sizes will accommodate hotter bulbs. So look it over and, if you …

Hi Guys, hope everyone is staying safe. I have a 280z without a brake booster. Checked on Orielly's and they told me there are 8.5in and 10in version of the booster. Which one does the 77 use? Mine is an automatic transmission if this all matters.

Hi there, Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I was browsing around and noticed that there really isn't any up-to-date Datsun registries anymore. The one on zhome is outdated and difficult to update and the ones on facebook have a lot of other junk. I was thinking of creating one to highlight all the different Datsun's all over the world and add photos, build links etc. Do you think there is space online for another registry?

Have you guys noticed that there are now new fuel sending units for 77-78’s available at Zcardepot? I had been looking for one for sometime when I bought my car and they were no place to be found, even used. Has anyone bought one of these. I had considered having my refurbished awhile back but is was about $200 to do that so I decided I could spend that money better elsewhere. This looks like a good but if they’re any good. https://zcardepot.com/products/copy-of-fuel-tank-gauge-sending-unit-sender-240z-260z-280z-70-78?variant=31387184595057¤cy=USD&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=google+shopping&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI19TayNe96A…

As far as I can tell, this is a new record for the sale of an early-series Datsun 240z. This series one car more than doubled the selling price compared to other cars that we have seen sold on an auction site called Bring A Trailer. The final bidder placed a whopping $310,000 US dollars on the table and walks away with a very nice example of this classic Z. The seller is no-doubt a very happy person and BAT pulls in their max commission of $5,000 (plus listing fees) to help sell this record-breaking car. Not a bad way to buy a car while standing in line at the grocery store or waiting for your plane to taxi down the runway. This Z is a very nice example of an…

I'm interested to hear from owners of late 240Z series I cars (above 19,000). I have a late Series I car that has some components consistent with earlier cars, but some components that are from later cars. My car is a clean, pretty original1971, with a build date of 1/71. The car has the correct series I steering wheel, c-pillar badges, vertical heating elements in the hatch glass, etc. There are, however a few things that seem odd and inconsistent with the earlier cars. Though the car has the correct hatch glass, it does not have the vents below. The valve cover is not the 2400 version but rather the OHC version, and the air cleaner has the heat riser and the flapper. Ce…

Hey Everyone, The refurbishment of my 1971 Z has been coming along. I got the engine compartment detailed and its running well. I thought I was done working on it for a while. There has always been a ticking sound in the top end. I was re checking the adjustment on the valves and I think I found it. There is a chunk out of a valve lobe. There is a little scoring on the rest of the lobe but nothing crazy. It seems like it should be replaced right? I would like to use this opportunity to upgrade to a cam with internal oiling and block off the oil rail. I would like to keep the cam stock if possible. I can only find performance cams. It looks like I should cha…

New to me anyway, I know they have been out there and others have them. I also got my spare ECU (after being ticked off about my spare that did not work) off ebay. Already plugged in in an works fine.
