Hello, I’m new here and have been looking at a lot of different Z communities to figure out where I belong. I joined here mainly because of the way I’ve seen questions answered by experienced members to the non-experienced (like myself). Helpful and not condescending like I saw on another forum. A little background on me: My son has always loved classics and I took him to a classic car show earlier this year. He was hooked and wanted to do a project. So the username “Dadson”. Thought that was a fun descriptive play on Datsun. We looked at a lot of American muscle but I kept gravitating back to the early z cars. Fast forward 9 months and here we are. We bought a 72…

Hi everyone, Richie G here recent owner but long time lover of Z cars. Child of the 70s and my first introduction to the Z car was a friend who had an original 240Z (not sure which year I was so young). When I turned 18 (1989) I bought my first Z a 84 300ZX that was rather rough but I loved it. Babied it for 10 years then needed to sell it as i moved to CA for work in 99. Here we are over 20 years later and the wife let me buy my dream car, that original 240. I just picked up a beauty, matching numbers fully rebuilt engine with interior restored. Has a few cosmetic things here and there but nothing major to deal with. It will be the little things I get to enjoy res…

Hello everyone, I'm on a long and arduous journey to find my brothers z. He passed away when I was young and the car was left to me. I was in high school at the time and donated it to the president of the nyzcc so they could restore it. I was following the restoration for a while and they were doing a gorgeous job. Unfortunately I lost contact with them over the years. This was around the year 2011/2012. It was a 72 240z with the 280z head swapped in. Primer Grey, Red interior (what was left of it), green brake calipers. Aftermarket stereo and rubber matting in the back and front where the carpet had been taken out. I don't have the vin sadly but if you know who was the p…

Hey all, New to the group. A quick overview of my car can be seen here 1991 300zx JDM Right Handed The dealer hasn't taken the post down yet. It's a blast driving on the right side! So my question is really a concern. I have a warning light going off intermittently that I can't figure out. I can't find it in any manual or internet search. Everything on this car is in Japanese so...who knows. It's the warning light in between the brake and open door lights. The engine is not hot. The only thing I can possibly see is my oil gauge is ready between 1/4 and 1/2. It never quite gets to 1/2. Doesn't seem like that symbol would indicate anything like …

Longtime lurker, finally registered. Been into the Z as long as it has been produced, although it was not until 1989 that I actually owned one. I started out as the typical American teenager, with muscle cars. A Chevelle or 3, as many Impalas (including a '66 SS 396 that I traded for a VW Beetle), a '71 Camaro (still own it) and a '65 Comet Caliente (wish I still had this one). Picked up a '71 Z that had been raced since '79 in 1989. Ran some novice races, and then spent the winter of '89 ~ '90 completely rebuilding it. The car was hideous when I picked it up, bright green on one side, blue on the other, with an orange stripe down the middle. The previous owner was …

I inherited a 1972 Datsun 240Z from my father who passed away a few months ago. It was in his possession from...I´m not sure, at least 15 years or so and most of that time it has remained in the same spot (in a sort of garage/shed sitting next to a couple of other older cars) Due to the covid19 situation I have remained at home and haven´t been able to go to my father´s house and do a more complete inspection of the car now that I´ve decided to start working on it. I took some pictures but a need to take it out of where it´s now to clean and inspect it more thoroughly. I can´t tell how many miles it has but in general is in a very good shape, very complete (original engi…

I want to vinyl paint my dash pad, glove box door, and center console interior of my 1978 280z the same brown, burnt orange, ginger color that the door cards, seats and rear panels currently are. Has anyone tried this? I dont want to reupholster. I am planning on doing it myself. I have looked at SEM Vinyl paint and there is a color code 15033 Saddle Tan that kinda looks similar. Anyone have a spot on color code or name? I have attached pics of my interior for referrence. with gratitude, @insta_datsun

Hello all, New to the forum and z cars! I have a '73 240z original engine and just did a major tune up - oil change, spark plugs, PCV valve, distributor cap, rotor, points, and condenser. I went to start the car and I wasn't getting much. I checked the battery and surprisingly it held a charge of the Buffalo winter but the CCA's were low so I decided to replace the battery since it was 4 years old. Now the car turns over but I am not getting a spark at any of the spark plugs. I pulled the distributor to check the gap and rotating to the highest point I'm gapped at .020 or .508mm which is well within spec. I checked resistance of each spark plug wire and most read ab…

Hi from ATL. Child of the 70s that always loved Z cars but couldn't afford one back then. I recently bought a 1978 280Z from a family friend. She was the original owner and had always planned to restore it. It has been in a garage for about 25 years. Any folks in the ATL area with recommendations for restoration garages? I am looking forward to poking around the site. take care

Hey y'all! New member here. I owned an '84 300zx Turbo when I was in high school. It was kind of a beater, but it would squeal the tires in 3rd! I was a pretty active member on the z31.com boards when they existed. Anyways, I've wanted a 240z for a long time. I don't have the money to go in for a nice one, but I love projects. Fixing rust on cars would be new for me. I've spent years rebuilding motorcycles. They're pretty different, but I'm confident I can learn. When I get a chance I'll post pics of the car I'm looking at currently. Right now I'm here primarily to learn about that lauded 1st generation! Thanks for having me! Also, I'm located in Western Nort…

I bought this car in 1977 when I returned from being oversees in the USN. As I was being paid hazardous duty pay I saved as much of my pay as I could and had just enough to pay cash for it. It's been through a lot over the past 43 years. I have just completed my 5th engine rebuild. The first 3 were my mistake learning auto mechanics. I had the most recent completed by a shop and the shop damaged my crank shaft pulley. Can anyone advise as to where I might be able to find a replacement?
