Just to introduce myself, I want to show you my car history below. I own a shop as a nighttime side business named Urban Legends Motorsport in Raleigh, NC, and have been modifying cars for quite some time. I have only gotten into older cars for my personal vehicles recently, and I really wanted a Z. I will keep you guys updated on the progress of the Z. New Project (just purchased on 4/5): 1977 Datsun 280Z Current Project: 1983 BMW 733i 5-Speed (My buddy is buying this off me in the next month) Past Project: 2005 Dodge Neon SRT-4 (Bought for $2500 in terrible condition, performed full resto) Past Project: 2005 Subaru Legacy GT (Stage 2.5, many mods)…

Hi guys, I haven't purchased my z-car yet, but I'm searching. I'm looking at 1970-74 cars, and I'd really like a 240. I've noticed a few things about the cars I've seen and I thought this might be a good place to turn for answers. 1) Chrome trim down the length of the body side: some cars seem to have this trim and some don't. I don't notice a correlation with model year or state of repair/modification; was this an option? Does it indicate any other option package or content? Or does it just come down to whether or not an owner has removed it? 2) Small button or switch on dash to the right of the tachometer: in some photos I can clearly make out "ON -- OFF" (arranged ver…

This is a good pull in my first 240Z i bought a few years ago, its pretty original with a few mods and upgrades to make it more reliable. It was destined for the crusher but with alot of work over the past few years it still gets it done today. L24 was an ebay score I bought three years ago for $300, guy was going with an RB swap and wanted it gone. It doesn't smoke, doesn't make any strange noises and it pulls pretty good. I know i've gotten my moneys worth out of it either way . Original 4 speed that came in the car. I does sound like I need to do another clutch as it sounds as if i have roasted this one too. I have to figure out what that scratchy noise is with the Go…

Hi, I am a 24 year old European guy on an internship in Los Angeles. This weekend I bought a 1972 240z up in Sacramento. I am only the second owner of the car, which came with all the history there is. There is even a neat Warranty card and a receipt for the original selling price . The car doesn't look bad from the outside, but needs work on the interior, and at some point a proper respray. Mechanically a lot has been done by the PO. Unfortunately not everything is in tune. I already started going through some of the stuff i suspect is wrong, but I am kinda stuck and hoping for some help here: http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/help-me/49157-need-help-tune-up-fault-…

Hi all, I have just purchased a 1970 240Z that is in kind of rough shape. Its major issues are carb tuning, electrical (no brake lights or turn signals) and a pretty good sized dent in the hood from a thoughtless parking lot patron. Aside from that. . . it's kind of a blast! You'll hopefully see more of this car on Hooniverse.com next week. Cheers, Rob

Hi, First a little history on the car. I found the car in Double Springs Alabama. Drove 3 hours to look at it...it didn't run or drive, but the paint look good and it had floor plans replaced and I was extremely excited to get into a Z again. Long story short, I missed many things: rear wheel arches made of bondo, floor pan rails not connected to the engine bay rails, front fenders welded to what remained of the rockers, and maybe worst of all the drivers frame rail was spliced (butt welded together) with a 280z one. So yes it was a train wreck. Never the less I am going to try to repair it. Here for some pictures: When I first got it I moved to Michigan, so i h…

Good evening all, I am new to the list, I own a pretty clean 1973 240 with a warped cylinder head. My problem is that I am not sure if it has been shaved already. Can anyone tell me what the measurement from the bottom of the head to the top of the head, measured at the flat where the cam tower bolts on, should be? It is a E88 head, that I am guessing is original to the car. Any assistance would be appreciated. Craig

Hello everyone I'm new member from a small country Bahrain (I think only few heard about it) anyways i'm a big fan of Japanese sport cars and i owned previously cars like 300ZX turbo, Toyota supra, 350Z and as many of you i always like the shape of S30 however never thought of owning one because its an old car and i thought requires some special maintenance and care until i saw an orange S30 for sale and after some long thinking I got it. at first i had no idea whether its a 260Z or 280Z but then it turned out to be a 280Z. Below is a picture when i first go it (sorry for the bad quality) http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/images/attach/jpg.gif and here is a recen…

Hi everyone, This is my first post here. I'm proud to say that I just finished up a ~2800km round-trip to tow a new to me 1970 240Z to my house. It needed a boost to turn over, but started easily and drove onto the trailer without issues. I gave it a good cleaning today and it's in better condition than I had expected. I don't have any pictures up yet, but I'll post some soon. Here's a quick summary of what it is. Body: The body and paint appear to be in pretty good shape, there are a couple of small bubbles/cracks forming where the B-pillar meets the roof line. Also some body damage to the front end fibre-glass pieces. Other than that it looks pretty solid. The fender we…

Hi, my name is Charlie and I live in eastern NC right by the Intercoastal Waterway. I am buying a one owner 1972 Z next week. It is in very good condition and can be used as a daily driver. Back in the mid and late 70s I raced a '72 Z in Solo II category of the SCCA, NC Region. In '78 I was fortunate enough to win 1st place for that year in AP class. Other than driving several Nissans over the years I have not had a Z car since then. I also collect British sports cars and have two Austin Healeys. A '66 3000 and a '59 Sprite MKI. I look forward to enjoying this Z because it is much more "driver friendly" than the British cars. I will be checking in and asking quest…
