Hey everyone, Just wanted to introduce myself to the group. Got my first Z car this autumn (a '78 Black Pearl 280Z from San Diego), drove her back to Chicago and, well, you guys know better than I do... now the work begins. The car's great, almost no rust, but she did sit for about 14 years, so the paint isn't pretty and there are all sorts of quirks (the tach, horn, random fuel/altitude sensor, high beams, etc. aren't working), but she runs well at sea level and the 5-speed feels great. The suspension is pretty shot, though. I saw a post on this forum where someone described their Z's ride like being on a buckboard. Not too far from the mark here. My plans are to work …

Hi, I'm from the central area of the state and have recently acquired a few more Z's. My first car I bought myself was an old run down '79 280zx that a friend had gotten from his cousin who'd had it since new. Both him and his cousin must've been bored alot, because they were never NOT doing some sort of maintenance(tinkering). It had the harder suspension like the 280z and the head had been removed at 50k miles, the intake runners and the valve pockets were ported & polished and the head was planed to increase comp to 9.1(or 9.3, cant remember). They replaced the clutch every 100k miles on the dot, and including the factory-installed clutch, it had the 6th clutch…

Greetings All: Figured I'd post up. From the Portland, Oregon (USA) area. My very first car was a '72 240Z. I loved that car. That was back when I was 19 - uh... sometime in the early '80's. In an effort to relive my youth, about 8 years ago I convinced the wife that I needed a '78 280Z. In a fit of reckless abandon I converted a perfectly good and fine running stock 280Z to a Holley 4bbl, headers, 2.25" exhaust, and MSD ignition. Then the wife said my "project" was out of funds. So the car sat for a while. Then I ended up in Australia for a couple years because of work. Back from that, I found motorcycles easier to work on. So the Z sat a while longer. I almost sold the …

Flashback: Late 70's in high school. Saw my first Z car and instantly fell in love. Definitely could not afford one. Kept buying junkers just to get from point A to point B. Favorite 2 cars ever have been a '76 Celica and '02 BMW 530i. The bimmer re-awakened my interest in working on and driving good cars. Have been wanting to get a smaller car autocross. Had to be light, handle well, and be cool. Had my sights set on a different Z car, a Z3M. Again, unaffordable for a guy w/ mortgage, high maintenance wife, and 3 boys. I happened upon a 260Z that was transplanted from Cali to New England. And, I could afford it! I might have paid a bit too much for it. Maybe not. I hav…

I don't yet own a Z, but I've been reading through this forum to get an idea of what I'm looking at. I'm in Utah, USA and am seriously considering the purchase of HLS30-42702. It's titled as a 1971 240Z and from my research the known data seem to confirm this. I'm not looking to restore it to pristine showroom quality, but I do want to restore it insofar as my budget allows. Maybe to 1970's daily driver status, if that makes sense. I got this crazy idea to get a project car a little while ago and my father suggested a Datsun or similar. My mom's first car was a 510 while my dad drove a VW Karmann Ghia. While both would be fun, the Z series has won me over. The Z in que…

heres a few shots of it. all i have done so far is pull of the pass door panel to lube up the window parts. thats why its off in the pics. it still had the protective plastic completely intact. till i had to pull it off that is. i saved it. its mostly still in one piece. only one spot of rust that needs work. the pass lower wheel arch corner right below the door. the pass rear corner under the bumper had a dent, was filled over at some point. you can see it metal behind it. a small dent.even i could fix it. not sure why they filled it. the hood is dented on the very front pass corner. i think a body could get it straight enough to save. its very small. notice the ha…

Hi, I live in Napa, CA (an hour north of San Francisco). In the early 80s I lived in Japan for 5 years, and although I went through 13 cars (buy, fix up, sell, move on), it wasn’t until I was back in CA that I bought my first Z. It was an all red ’72 240. It was lots of fun, but way back in ’86. Last October I picked up a ’77 280z 2+2. It was non-op when I got it, but it’s already my 3 year old son’s favorite activity… riding in daddy’s Z car. BaTora

Greetings to all, I have recently joined and have enjoyed reading about adventures had by many of you. I find myself sitting on three z's unable to decide on wether to dive in and restore them to former glory or let them sit in the barn another 15 years. I am a former vette owner, yes, even with the 3 z's parked in the barn. I guess the main reason for that was the extra pounds that life has given me over the years, so, bigger car equalls more room behind the wheel. But while I was spending time out on the west coast someone back at home in Alberta decided they wanted my vette more than I did and stole it out of our garage. Since health prevents me from rolling down …

I have a 240z engine that has been on a engine stand in my garage for years. I was wondering how to manually turn the crank to see if it was seized or not. I tryed grabbing the crank pulley and turning it by hand and it would not budge. So I put a socket on the pulley crank bolt and try to turn it, same thing it would not budge. Any ideas? Thanks, Rick
