Hi: I am a new member from California. I have just purchased a 72 Z and noted that there is a slight gasoline or exhaust smell inside the car. I have not found any leaks in the fuel system or the exhaust system. I have had a 73 before and I don't recall having that problem. Does any of you have any experience with that? Any suggestion on what I should check next. Thanks.

So I will come clean, I am an old Mercedes guy , have been for years. Really have liked the "Z"'s through the years and picked up a 78 280Z with 68K on the clock from the original owner. SHe is a bit rusty but runs good. I am in the early stages of "learning all I can" and starting here. Your forum looks active and full of good people and information. I will be posting many questions I am sure ! The first of which - what are good manuals, resources for these cars. I am handy with tools, and familiar with the injection system of this car since it is the same of the MB's of the Era. I plan to tear it down interior and exterior so let the fun begin. More posts from me in…

Sorry in advance...I'm long winded.. fingered... handed...whatever. I Like T.M.I. Ok. About 2 maybe 3 years ago I came across what appeared to be a good enough deal. Bought both a 1978 280z with bad motor and a 1982 280zx turbo with a good motor from same guy for $700. Spent about $150 in parts and such swapping motors. Had a Bad time with the wiring. Smoke, melted plastic, etc... Made the mistake of thinking the big fat red wire at the battery went to the positive post. Not so... nope. Next time I may actually use the pictures I take come reassembly time. There was more to it, ECU wiring issues, injector firing problems, fuel pump issues...etc. I did finally get the…

Hi, I'm Phil I'm in the UK, I've visited the US a couple of times and I wanted to build a series one 240z so I bought HLS30-18912 Build Date 01/71 which came from a Scrap yard (junk yard) in Arizona and I will rebuild it whatever it takes! The engine and gearbox/transmition was missing as were the doors, the wings/fenders were knackerd as was everything else! The shell however was very good with perfect inner wings which is impossible to get in the UK, I have nearly completed all of the work on the shell and have bought nice rust free Californian doors and panels so it will be ready for paint this summer. The car although prepainted white was originally 502 Ivory with b…

Hey guys. I'm Zach. i've been in love with Z's since i was, oh, let's see, 10. a neighbor had a silver one that in retrospect was probably stock, but i thought it was a car from the future!!! i loved that thing. i'd chase after it every time he drove by. i loved the sound and the way it looked. So this january, i bought a 75 280Z from a guy for $600. it was a HELL of a deal and sometimes i feel kinda bad about it, but then i kick myself back to reality and thank God for what i got. it's not running yet, (and those who've seen my other post know why) but when it's all said and done, i'll have a black/grey/green interior and a 240 green paint job. i'm hoping to replace…

Hey guys I'm new to the forum but I've owned a Z car since I was 15. It started out with a grey 86 300zx with an LT1 swap, then a Mexico Orange 72 240z, Gold Metallic early 74 260z 2+2, then a 76 Silver 280z which is now black and has a 332 small block, then a 303 Green Metallic early 74 260z, and my most recent purchase an 83 Orange Mist Metallic 280zx Turbo. Im also about to buy a late 74 260z that was originally silver and now is an ugly seafoam green color. Fortunately it was a crappy cheap paint job and the jambs are all still the original silver color. Anyway thats my Z's. Im almost 20 and I attend the University of Alabama. Just thought id introduce myself

Reposting since I accidently stepped on someone elses post...Sorry Hey Guys, the name's Daryl. Been an American V8 guy all my life, but was looking for a project car for my 15 year old son and I to fix up and drive around on the weekends. Came across a 72 Z on Craigslist that claimed had been sitting and needed the carb adjusted. I show up it runs.....barely. But it was good enough for me. Paid the guy, towed it home and me and the son got to work. After doing some homework, the block and the head both say N42 meaning it's a 280Z engine.Correct? However it has a points style ignition leading me to believe that at least the distributer was from a 240z. The intake manifold…

Hello My name is Ken Burt and yes I have worked on Zs for a long time. At my own shop and Datsun/nissan dealers. I currently work with Vinnie Bedini at Preformance Specialties in New Milford, CT USA. I have owned many Zs. now I am down to 2 Zs and a 2000. I also have three rally cars: 1600sss, Gp4 Violet GTS and a GpB 240RS. I would like to build a proper Rally Z and I would like any help in getting the right parts. I am looking forward to getting to know many of you. Ken

Hi everyone, my name's Colby, here's my "official" intro to Classic Zcar. I drive a '71 240Z (when the weather is good anyway), and my DD is an 02 Acura RSX-S. I picked up my 240 after spending a couple years in South Korea where a severely old car means manufactured from the mid-90s and where every car is black, white, or silver. I grew up tooling around in some of my buddies 510s and 240s, and always loved them. Having missed older (and brightly colored) cars so much in Korea, I searched for some time before finding a fitting car that was within my budget. I picked this car up in SoCal, and am really happy with it. Burnt orange was always my favorite color on Datsuns …

Some of you may have heard the name. I've been post on Zcar since about 2001 and it is no longer the fun and infomative site it used to be. Such things happen. I also post on Mutineerz another splinter group in the Z community. My qualifications in the Zcommunity: 1981 280ZXT = ZXelda (old Germane for female warrior) 1986 300ZX 2+2 = ZXita (Italian for little girl) 1990 300ZX = ZXena (Greek for honored guest) 1941 Buick Special Sedanette = Betty (for Betty Grabel famous WWII pin up picture and my mothers actual first name - Betty Lou. 1956 Dodge Royal Lancer = Dorothy (becasue my wife - her car - thought it fit) 1971 Buick Riviera = Rita ( because my wife thought it f…
