I've come across an RB30 engine, it's a proper runner with full loom, ecu, rebuilt head but with no 'box for AU$300. This would be a great base for an engine build up. I wasn't particularly looking for one, but it's being sold by the guy my brother works for who wants to clear some space in his workshop. The problem... INSURNACE  I'm only 19 so even getting only 3rd part property isn't going to be a fun prospect. So... Is this a real bargain or just normal price? What are my chances of getting a RWC for this conversion and what are my chances for for reasonably priced insurance? What to do???

This is mainly for Gavin's benefit but I thought others might like to see how the previous owner of "Precious" set up the carbies. I have to admit, she ran well until there was a blockage, fuel ran up into the hose, overflowed the filter,(Check the hole in the filter to allow the passage of air), and poured down onto the manifold. Fortunately the engine wasn't up to full operating temperature at the time. I've since bought a pair of 240 carbies so you can understand why I've been in the hunt for an air box. Rick.

I'm all worked up about this so if i start talking i'll just shoot off my mouth, so i'll paste below an e-mail i recieved tonight. A Media Release today by the Minister for Local Government, Territories and Roads, the HON. JIM LLOYD MP, spells the effective death of the 15 year rule as we know it. This is reproduced below for your information. In essence, from today 7th Feb 2005, only 1988 and older vehicles can be imported under the 15 year rule. This will be gradually increased to 30 years over time. All other vehicles for road use must be imported under SEVS. Anyone who can prove a financial commitment to a 1989 or 1990 vehicle prior to today's announcement will be…

Hi All, I am about to pull the L28 out of my 240z to replace it with an RB. If anyone wants any parts from the L28, I am going to dispose of the whole thing. I also have a set of 240 carbs which have not been used since rebuild about 18 months ago. The distributor has not been used since new points and rotor either. I'm open to any offers and have all parts from a complete engine.

Just wondering if anyone has tried using an RB30 crank in the L28 ? Instead of an 83mm stroke(LD28), you would get an 85mm stroke. The main journal diameters are pretty much spot on, so just as long as the lengths between them are the same it hsould sit right in there. I guess the only problem would be getting the right rod and piston height setup. You would need to change the crankshaft sproketand interference between the crank and the block _might_ be an issue...hmm, anything else I am missing ? has it been done before to anyones knowledge ? ray

Just wondering what sort of work is required in making a Delco ECU work on an L28E? The kalmaker software used to tune it, is that free or not ? I have read a bit on megasquirt and it seems like it could be a good deal, but the delco is a homegrown item and could be picked up quite easily (and possibly cheaper). Although not wanting to spend lots of money on the performance pit that is the L28, with a tunable ECU its something that you could take across to other engines (in theory) if need be.

Please dont be too offended by the sideskirts...previous owner put them on and I will be taking them off, anyone wanna buy em ? The engine is a rebuilt L28 with small cc E88.

OK, the more time I spend looking at this great website, posting gooffy questions and replies etc, the more Aussie members seem bob up. So far I think there are 4 of us in Perth (26ounce, Mr.Camoflage, Lee240zPerth and myself). Anyone else? If we know who we are we can all be collectively miserble about: a) the lack of decent Zs for sale withing a 2000km radius of Perth the lack of a spares/workshop for zs c)the fact that our U.S. cousins can pick and choose from the 60,000+ 240s that were imported to their land compared to the 2-3000 that came to Australia. But more to the point, we can share our hard won knowledge on z-survival downunder. If you're an Aussie, sta…
