considering purchasing cold start valve for 1976 datsun 280 z from auto parts store, one valve has a black marking, other valve has a green marking, price difference is $9 could any one tell me if there is difference, both from same manufactor

Ladies and gents About two weeks ago my car developed a rather nasty exhuast leak (pretty bad actually, nice TICK noise when you start it and pretty much there the whole time). At first it would go away on its on when the motor got warm but now its just there, all the time. Today I tightened everybolt on the manifold, other then the last two (going towards the engine) they were all pretty tight. I also tightened the manifold to pipe bolts. Leak is till there without avail. I've come to the conclusion that I may have blown my gasket out and no amount of tightening will help. So here's a couple of questions. First off, would driving on a bad gasket cause any major damage. …

I got my project car about a year ago. 1977 280Z with 39,000 miles on it. The original owner died in 2001 and her husband had no interest in his wife's car and stuck it in a pole barn until he had to move it. I ended up with it. Nice body needing modest help. But of course it hadn't been run in about 11 years. My backyard mechanic friends did lots of work and got it running. I did some more work and finally got it running very nicely, but when I had some exhaust work done, the guy pointed out that the body rails were looking kinda bad. Hey guys. 72 240 stock points ignition, stock SUs. Usually pulls hard. She just started an annoying and sudden miss which occurs mainly under light acceleration. Almost as though someone is turning the key on and off. The tach. flutters at the same time, and sometimes the car will stall completely. Then sometimes it starts straight up, then another time it would not start till a few hours later. My assistant was cranking it over, then as soon as I shorted out a plug wire , and it started. The spark at the plugs is weak and yellow. Plugs are clean. I changed the coil, but no difference. Whats next? Condenser? I am leaning towards ignition, because of the fluttering tach.…

I'm hoping Scott or Bruce can chime in (or anyone else that has experience), as I'm having some difficulties fine tuning the SU's on my '72 240z. I've followed the instructions to the letter for installing the ZT-150 tune-up kit. In order to have the piston-lift work as it supposed to (slightly higher idle and then falls back to normal when raised), I've lowered the mixture knobs down 8 full turns. The car drives and performs well, but I'm noticing that it smells very very very rich and the vacuum gauge is steady at ~17. When I lean out the mixture to about 3 full turns down (idle drops and engine almost stalls when raising the piston-lift), the immense smell goes a…

Can anyone help here just got my z running been 20 yrs since last time motor starts ands idles great but cant get the rpms up above 3000.rpms hit 3000 then drop to 2500 and back up to 3000 its not spark because i hooked up a tester and the sparks never stop even as the motor goes down to 2500 so i figure its fuel but where to i start?

New clutch, PP, bearing, pilot bearing, tried adjusting slave unit and doesn't make a difference. So maybe trans input bearing? Car also makes a whine noise going down the road that only changes with speed-not gearing. I thought it might be the diff since they do have a reputation, but maybe this is all trans related.

All this work that I have done to my 78 280 and what do I get....Terrible dyno results Mod List The car already had a F54 block and flat top pistons I added E88 heads...ported and polished over sized valves heavy springs Arizona intake Stage III cam New Holley 390 Today I added a 2.5 inch exhaust flowmaster and a brand new dizzy and module for a 80 280. I am smoking at high RPM...Blue smoke...I guess I need new rings....I guess I lost alot of HP there. Dyno results 115 HP to the rear wheels 145 foot pounds of torque. I am bummed....all this work and money for such a shitty result.

Ladies and Gents I require pulling out the speedometer in my 280z as the trip odometer (and thus the normal odometer) is stuck. By stuck I mean I can 0 it out but it will hi 9 and then stop and not move anymore. How difficult is said removal of the speedo? Anyone have any pictures? Thanks all Jan
