Well, after getting several other electrical gremlins worked out, its back to the brakes. The pedal feels wooden at times, with no travel, and other times, feels a bit more like it should. I have a 70 240, so i'm aware that the original master cylinder was a different one than all the rest. But it looks to have been replaced. What could I do, without just playing the shotgun parts approach, to find out which master cylinder i have, as well as which booster is on there? Any measurements that can be taken, or other parts i can reference from? I'm going from one end to the other on the brakes (just like the rest of the car. Hope to have it a long time, so the more i can r…

I bought this from a friend who took the car apart and had all the rusted parts replaced. The car has been primed and is ready to be put back together. I am not sure what I should do with the underside. I am going to blast it using walnut shells prime it and paint it flat black. Then should I undercoat it before putting the the rest of the suspension and drive train in?

For years now I have dealt with an overheating problem and can not figure out what the cause of it is.... I just went through and replaced water pump, gasket, and thermo, cleaning radiator, replacing hoses i let it idle for a few minutes and slowly the dial starts to creep up towards the red.... I dont know what else to do any suggestions welcome. Thanks also, if i am driving the temp stays ok for the most part, but when i idle it starts to creep up, and once it gets up to high the only way to get it down is to shut the car off till it cools down, or maybe if im going 80 on the interstate

Hello - I recently acquired a 1971 240Z that was in a 20 Year slumber - and with a mechanic, it's now ALIVE... that being said, I have noticed that it runs RICH - and seems to also be somewhat out of timing...and also runs HOT on the freeway. I have replaced the radiator with a 3-row, the water pump, hoses, and understand that the mechanic replaced the thermostat... knowing nothing about the SU carbs, trying to figure out what to focus on 1st - the timing - or the carburators? Car is original, as far as I know - 41K - 3-speed AUTOMATIC - Hitachi SU carbs - AC not hooked up ... The car runs OK when around town - no heat problems - but again, can see / smell some gas goi…

Hey everybody, just for reference, my car has the earlier style SU carbs. When I first bought her I put everything back together and she ran perfectly. I adjusted the main idling screw on the top of the linkage and it idled at 700 rpm smoothly. Then, one day it just started idling between 1500 and 2k rpm. I was going to adjust the carbs but read that if the needle is the issue, leaning out the carbs can mess up the valves. I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions where to start due to the random appearance of the problem. Thanks, Austin

Hello all This past weekend I installed a new battery on my Z and finally got it running properly. Long and behold I don't have blinkers for some reason. The hazard switch works (I have two, and tested both the hazard lights turn on) but when I go to turn on the blinkers (turn signals) nothing, no lights no indicators on the tach nothing. Any ideas on what could be going on? Thanks Jan

I have a 1977 280z and I'm having some trouble getting it starting. I don't seem to get spark from any of my plugs. The car was working fine the other day, but suddenly decided not to work. I've had starting problems in the past, but I have been able to fix them with some good ol' starter fluid. That trick won't work this time. The engine cranks just fine (starter gets proper voltage, as well.) I've checked the battery and the connectors, all work fine. I replaced my ignition coil, and all of the wires (ignition wire and spark plug wires) and I've also replaced the plugs, themselves. Still, no spark. I checked the resistance of my distributor cap and I got around 0.9 to 1…

1972 240Z production date 7/72 When I got the car back from restoration it had a clunking noise when backing up and wanted to pop out of gear. We thought that it related to the shifter.:bulb: I put a correct shift lever in the car with new bushings today and the problem is the same.:tapemouth Anyone had this problem. It is only there when backing and it sounds like a bad universal joint clunking.

1975 280, I had it running great for about an hour after sitting for 3 years , Problem much like the other post. I have no power at the fuel pump . I can the fuel pump directly to a battery and it pumps. I can start the car for about 15 seconds before it dies . I opened the FSM black side box and the switch is moving when i start the engine . Any ideas ? any way to test the big relay? something is preventing the fuel pump from getting power.. Can I bypass that big relay by putting a new one between the ignition power and the fuel pump? thanks a new car I would like to drive some more Dan in NC

I found a massive vacuum leak where the throttle body connects to the intake manifold. Took it off and replaced the gasket and still no joy. As much as I hate the idea, I'm contemplating trying some RTV or Copper gasket spray on the thing. Both throttle body and intake are flat as far as I can tell. I need some help on figuring this out. Thanks.:angry
