Hello guys This evening while driving the Z my gauge stopped working. I drove it the five blocks home and started investigating what exactly went wrong. Long an behold the single wire that goes to the temp sensor (the one for the gauge clearly) broke apart. Clearly the years have not treated this wire well. Question is, does anyone know what end one must use to connect to the water temp sensor. I tried using regular butt connectors (i have 100's at my house) but none of them worked well. Any help would be great. Thanks Jan

I had an electrical short come about. A little below the battery I have a relay? or something like it, that burnt up. The car died on me and wont crank. The relay? has a 4 wire plug and is mounted to the firewall a little down and to theside of the battery. I went and looked at another 73 and it had a 6 wire connector and the relay? was smaller. Haynes wiring diagram does not show this anywhere, I'm not good withnwiring so might be wrong on that. The wires are black and white, black and yellow, and white and black and either the BW or BY has 2 wires in connector. Can I bypass this relay? and what is it for. Please help! Thanks

the car is a 1978 280Z 5 speed manual and the issues are, most of the time i cant get it to rev above 3.5k rpm but then once in awhile i can get it to go till i let off but then right after that its back to the same old stuff at 3.5k rpm i have run out of ideas and would love any opinions on to why and how i can solve this problem. its not the afm or any of the electronics that i have tested through the efi bible so now the only things that i can think of are the timing chain is way out of line, the vacuum lines are hooked up wrong even though they appear to be hooked up fine but i cant find a vacuum diagram for my specific year either.... that or my distributor is angled…

Hi all, I recently acquired a '73 with a '71 su carbs. It has been garaged for the last 25 years. I took out the gas tank and give it a good clean. Changed all the fuel, coolant hoses, and new spark plugs. I took out both domes to give them a good cleaning. The front piston of the carb travel less than the back. Aren't they suppose to travel the same distance when you rev the engine? The pistons travel freely up and down so no binding. I put sae 5w20 for damper oil. It can rev 6000+ rpm, but when I put it in 1st gear, the engine is very sluggish and dies eventually, the compression is good. Any suggestion would be appreciated, and if you know a good mechanic i…

Since I last drove my car, I put in new spark plugs, a Pertronix igniton, Pertronix flame thrower coil and a voltage regulator. THe plug wires are brand-new NGK. Now my car turns over and that's about it. I checked the polarity, tightened all the screws, made sure there were no loose wires, etc. Since the Pertronix coil doesn't have long enough wires, I got some 14 gauge primary wire and some waterproof crimps and added 8 inches of length. I'm not an electrical genius but I think all my connections are sound. So what could be preventing it starting? Anyone have any thoughts?

I was removing a few hoses to replace and found that one of them contained a black sludge..... this sludge was also in the pipe leading into and out of the hose, my question is what is this hose suppose to be moving and is there a good way to clean this out, im sure its not suppose to be moving this through the engine..... The pictures show what the hose was, and what dripped out of it, and where the hose ran between, when I put a paper towel into the pipe that goes into the block there was a thick sludge on it like old oil.

1972 240Z pretty much stock other than Webers, and a bigger fuel pump. So my son and I were driving home tonight from a car show. The car was missing a tad, then my headlights went dim, then they came back, then dim. My fog lights, on their own circuit with relays, remained bright, thankfully. Then BAM total darkness, no ignition, instant rolling chassis in the dark. I managed to feel my way off the main road with momentum, and turn right about 20 feet into a dark side road. The smell of burnt electrical. With my phone's light, I found that the main fusible link from the starter lug to the main harness was melted. With the ignition off, lights off, all things off …

Hi Guys, Is there a good source for finding out how to remove the fuel rail on FI cars? I sprung a fuel leak this morning in the 79 as I was leaving for work, luckily I smelled the raw gas, and had a flashlight handy in the pre dawn hours to see gas squirting from the little hose that hooks to one injector. I'm guessing it's pretty easy to get that rail off, and replace the hose? My memory of the a pic in the service manual seemed like it was pretty simple, but that the instructions in the manual weren't so detailed....

Good morning you all!!! I have a 1978 280Z that the speed cable is not working. I have a new cable, but I think that the sleeve that goes inside the transmission is the wrong one. It has a tranny 5-speed on it. My question is What is the easiest way to identify the transmission model and finding the correct sleeve for the speedo cable? thanks Carlos78Z
