Sorry if this has been answered in the past. I'm new to the forum. Just bought a 1977 280Z. Runs great, but the air conditioner was overheating the magnet valve main vac. Played around and finally took it to a shop who recommended I replace both the magnet valve main vac and the magnet valve FICD but I'm not having luck finding those parts. Any advice? Thanks in advance.

I have removed the dash and removed all gauges/connections. The only thing I can't remove is the knob/cable that runs to the speedometer for the trip meter mileage reset. Can't remove the plastic knob that is on the underside of the dash that would allow the cable to be free to be removed. Any help/suggestions appreciated. Thanks, Bill.

I have fuel (35# at the rail), new fuel filter, new injectors -- I have spark (new rotor, cap, plug wires and plugs) -- I also have a miss (at all speeds) -- in the process of cleaning all connections on the FI system - don't know where to go next. Ideas?(or experience?)

I takes 3-5x before ignition key starts the car and sometimes it does right up. Batt and starter were tested ok at local parts store. Is it time to replace ignition assy? Appreciate any inputs. Thank you.

Hello all This past weekend I was changing out the coil in the Z with a stock unit; the blaster II coil is great (MSD) but sadly I'm tired of going through rotors every few months. Well in the process I unplugged the condenser that sits atop the coil mount. The wire that connects it to the coil broke off from old age. I spent the large part of this week searching endlessly for a new one. Sadly the only condensers I could find only had one wire and not the two that the one in my Z has. I ended up going to the local wreching yard and pulling a rather nice looking condenser out of a late 70's maxima (I want to say it was 79). It looks exactly like the one I have in the Z and…

75 280 with 79 block and N42 head, head has been refreshed, cleaned up and valve's done, new head gasket, no oil leaks apparent anyhwere. Now I have no oil pressure showing on the guage. I pulled the valve cover with the engine running (not smart) and oil was flying all over the place, replaced the oil sending unit and still no pressure indicated. The guage worked prior to the engine removal. I'm not sure if there is no oil pressure, bad guage, sending unit or what? I've checked electrical continuity from sending unit to the connector in the engine bay and its OK, haven't been able to check from the connector to the guage. Also tried grounding the wire from the sender wit…

So i recently replaced the alternator, water pump, and fan clutch (200 miles ago) due to a whining noise after replacing these items the whining ceased. However just the other day the whining came up again and I'm sure it is the fan clutch. I was wondering if there is a problem causing it to go bad or how they go bad in the first place? I drive my car hard but the fan clutch is also brand new so not sure what to do

Dear Classic Z Cars, My '77 280z is my first car and I love it very much. Since I'm not an expert on the matter, I find myself useless in times when mechanical experience and knowledge is required. At the moment, my car won't start. I don't know what it is...The car was fine, but then I didn't drive it for 2 days. I came back to it and now it won't start. I got a video of it trying to start. (Still be processed...I'll post it when ready) Maybe you guys can help me out. There are no leaks, the car has fuel (checked lines and there's fuel going through), the car has oil, and the battery seems to be ok, but I'm not 100% sure. The Volts stay at around 13 with the key ON, and …

So here is the deal. There is a high pitched whine when I accelerate. I was lead to believe it was a water pump problem so I replaced that. We ran it afterwards and the whine was still present. However we took off the belt that goes to the alternator and the fan and the whining/whirring was gone. What does this mean? Not sure what to do

Hi all, As some of you may remember, last summer I improved my AC cooling by installing MSA's dual electric radiator fans and aluminum shroud. The side effect was that it made my car run hotter on extended freeway drives. It was really strange. The temps would drop as soon as i got off the freeway and into stop and go traffic. Thinking that the shroud was blocking too much airflow, I removed one of the fans. The summer heat let up last year before I really had time to decide if that made a difference, but I think it helped a bit. Well, it got worse this summer. The temps would get up as high as 210, as measured by an infrared thermometer pointed at the thermostat h…

I've got the tie rods and bellows off my rack and out of the car but the ball joints are confounding me, 73 240z. The locknuts don't want to move. They look like they are tack welded in four places around the joint, little depressions in the sleeve just outside the nut. the rack has an inner nut and bushing are these just adjusters for total rack movement,? The inner bushing and nut are on a smaller diameter thread than the ball joint and the threading for the ball joint, the larger diameter is milled flat. Any reason for this? If i move thus inner bushing and nut in towards center I can get a purchase on the milled area for the larger threads. I just don't want to…
