I told my son to find us a car to tool around on. Ended up buying 76 280z. Engine was taken out. I wanna put something in but really haven't messed with old foreign cars so I don't know what will fit with out too much work. I don't have a lot of money, in the navy. If anyone could give me some suggestions as to what will fit and be pretty cheap I would be very grateful. My son has autism and is very unsociable so when he was very excited about this it blew my mind. Thanks.

Short version of post in engine section. Can the dizzy, oil pump and oil pan be left in place when removing the front cover? Head is not torqued down. I've read lots of post re: cam sprocket not lining up, but somehow even after wedging the chain in place B4 removing the head it has managed to slip about 3-4 links from where I marked it and I'm not sure just how much a timing difference this will make. Thanks.

Just lately,I had an issue with my 77 280 running excessivly rich.I figured out it was a bad fuel pressure regulator, and a stuck injector.I replaced FPG,and all the injectors, and now she runs well. While I was replacing these parts I noticed a green wire that was cut.It goes to what looks like some sort of sensor that is threaded into the side of the BCDD.I also started car and pulled vacuum hose going to vacuum advance unit from BCDD unit.Even when I revved engine to 4500 RPM,and then let off throttle suddenly, there was no sign of any kind of vacuum. Is there suppossed to be?Also I remember faintly something about VAC. ADV.not kicking in until 5th gear was engaged.Sound fa…

Hi Everyone, Novice of novices here. Pertronix makes it sound so easy. I have '73 240Z. I thought I watched enough Youtube videos and read instructions I could do this myself. I removed the points but I don't know how to get the red wire from coil into the distributor. Do I remove the yellow wire inside the distributor and assembly on back side which has some sort of metal cylinder attached to it and use the rubber plug attached to the red wire that came with the electronic ignition? I determined to learn this. Please help. Thanks. Tomorrow I may post a photo of the mess I created.

I changed the spark plug wire on my 77 280z and now the car would not start. I first put the wire on wrong and then fixed it based on the diagram on my haynes manual. The battery somehow got drain. I jumped it with my g35, have power and the car would not start. It crank, but nothing. Once I unhook the jumper cable from it, the car later loses juice. This time when I try to start it, I hard this big thump sound from the engine. I think see something slowly leaking from the intake, end up to be gas. Did the intake backfire? I heard this the other day when the car was running perfectly. I live in Minneasota and it was about 10 degrees today. Did the fact that I fir…

OK,..so I have rear end "clunk". Happens when you release the clutch. Evident at every shift change, of course more prominant in the lower gears and at initial take off. I had read that this was usually the differential mount, so I replaced it. Clunk still there. I then read that it could be a U-Joint. So I crawled under the car and did notice some "very slight" movement in the right rear axle half shaft. So,..I replaced the u-joints on both sides, all four. While I was at it, I decided to proceed and replace the drive/prop shaft u-joints too. You guys may have read my previous thread about all the trouble this caused, as I had to lower the exhaust and remove the sway …

Car is a 75 280Z with an XR3000 ignition setup. Ok so I've been trying to track down a cold start injector that wasn't working and now somehow over the weekend the fuel pump has stopped operating. I've tested the fuel injection relay as per the FSM as well as the cold start valve itself and the thermo time switch. Not sure how but it looks like I'm not getting 12V from the ignition switch down to the fuel injection relay now. There is 12V exiting the switch on all of the proper terminals in the Start and Run positions. After looking through some wiring diagrams it looks like at least in the Start position I should have 12v coming from the black/yellow wire at the switch…

Hello all A few past weekends ago I took a nice long drive up to Phoenix for a Datsun meet. On the way there I noticed that my trip odometer was not really rolling over, it was stuck. Since I don't really use it I though whatever. Well after sometime I noticed that the normal odometer wasn't working either. So I reset the trip odometer and long and behold both worked fine for a while. The trip one got stuck again and...well you get the idea. So here's the question. What exactly can I do to fix the odometer(s). The trip one gets stuck when it rolls over from 9 to 0 and I have to reset it almost daily when I drive. (I like knowing my mileage). Any help would be great. Jan
