Greetings Z enthusiasts. I used to own a '72 240Z back in the 70's and early 80's and it was by far the coolest car I've ever owned. Happily, I just took advantage of an opportunity to purchase another one. The car is in very good condition, and I would like to restore it to the best condition possible without spending a ridiculous amount of money. Before stripping and painting, I would like to have a qualified mechanic go over this car and make recommendations for what might need to be done mechanically. Can anyone recommend a good mechanic or garage in southeast Michigan that is familiar with the early Z's? Thanks! jellyman58

Let me give you a run down first, 1971 that I put in a L28 about 5 years ago all new plugs/wires/cap/rotor/ect and it ran fine, but the car has never been driven since, just been garaged awaiting bodywork that never seemed to happen. I would start it every month or so and just let it idle and a few times I drained the gas and put a few gallons of fresh in. Progressively over the years it was running worse and worse each time, bad gas or whatever maybe floats stuck. So here I am now, ready to get it back running and its stumping me what else I can try. I took the carbs apart and cleaned them out and did rebuild kits on them. Drained gas and changed filters (did not l…

Hey guys! I am pretty new to this forum and have not posted much or anything. I have a '78 280Z with the stock everything....! When I purchased it for $1000.00 it was running as good as a 33 year old car can run. The previous owner was regular with minor maintenance, oil changes, lube and grease. Anyway, my point is, I am planning on doing some updates to my Z. Rebuilding or renewing the block and head components is one of them. So now my questions is i have a Manifold Bolt/Stud kit (P/N: 15-8081) from thezstore.com that i recently purchased to upgrade some hardware that was as old as the car itself. Well now i had the head worked on and i am kinda lost on where all the s…

I have been driving my car for the past month just fine, getting roughly 18mpg with no problems; however, I went to the store, and when I came back, my car wouldn't start. I have a half tank of gas in the car. I took off the boot between the air filter and held the flap open, and still no fuel being delivered(I also don't hear the injectors spray). The flap in the AFM isn't opening when I give it throttle while turning over, is this normal? I took off the fuel line before the filter and when I turned it over, no fuel would pump through. I purchased a new fuel pump, but I have not installed it yet. I wanted to get some help as to what else I should check before I replace…

Looking for any leads into finding an experienced Datsun mechanic in the Baltimore/Washington metro area. Also looking for a good body man to replace floor pans and frame rails. Mechanic in DC gave me a ball park figure of $5K plus to do floor pans...guess he'll be using ivory and whale skin for the repair.
