71 240z, refurrbed carbs from ZTherapy it seems like I'm giving these mixture knobs full turns to get any response from the motor and then I'll back it off a bit...but I was expecting 1/4 turns or using the notches to get lean/rich states.... almost lugging a bit when bumping the throttle initially... what should I do? twirl the disk to find highest idle speed? I think I've already got it, the motor just lugs out when I go in either direction about 1.5 turns.... go watch the DVD again ? I guess I'm not recognizing? thanks

I have two problems, am presuming right now they are not connected. 1. Ignition switch - the engine will not stop running when I turn the ignition switch off. Some background: the car just had the rebuilt engine installed and when we went to fire it up, the ignition switch worked initially to start the engine, then gave up on the starter circuit after a couple of cycles. I used a jumper to the starter solenoid for subsequent starts. We also noticed the engine would not stop when the switch was turned off. I pulled the B/W wire on the coil to kill the engine. My diagnosis: worn out ignition switch. Got a new one and installed it today and the starter circuit works gr…

Hey all, I have a couple of questions concerning the front control arms and their bushings. First, are the left control arm and the right one interchangeable with each other? I took my control arms to a local shop to press out the old bushings and i think they pressed in the new poly busings backward. The short side of the new bushing is on the wrong side. second, the new poly bushings dont have an outer metal sleeve like the original bushings did. Is that how all manufactures of the poly bushings make them? Thanks, matt

Hello. I've searched the archives and cannot find an answer, and perhaps this is such a basic question it's just not there. I have the usual "my wipers don't work but my motor does" issue in my 1975 Z. I have pulled the linkage, cleaned them, lubbed them, but is there something else. I have attached a jpg of the pivot points. Is there something on this that can be disassembled and cleaned? I did find a previous post, and I'm hoping you can tell me he is talking about my issue: Previous post begins here: Then before you put everything back, carefully remove the round clip at the shaft that holds the shaft through the shaft holder. This can easily be pried up and out of i…

Hi all, I was out on errands a couple of days ago and had my '78 fail to start at the post office. Had it towed home a few blocks. Thank god for AAA. After a bit of diagnostics, I found I had no fuel pressure. I pulled out the FSM and started fault tracing. I found that the ignition relay, the fuel pump control relay, and the fuel pump relay were all working fine. I had +12 to the fuel pump relay with the ignition switch in the start position. Also when I jumpered across the plug to the fuel pump relay, the pump kicked in. Cool. So I plugged the fuel pump relay back in, and everything worked fine. I figured it was just a dirty contact somewhere. (Lots of dirt …

1978 280z, looking to replace Cold Start Valve. Have noticed that replacements are referred to as "black dot" or "Green dot". Besides $, what's the difference between the two? Also, is it the same connector as is used for the injectors? Thanks.

I've been doing research for the last couple days on the 280ZX alternator upgrade in a 240Z. I've got a '73 240Z and I'm first and foremost curious if Zs-Ondabrain (Dave Irwin I gathered) is still supplying the wiring adaptor for this particular upgrade. I sent a PM, but since Arne's post relegating that responsibility to Dave Irwin was from 2006 (and I'm a bit pressed to get my car running again) I figured it best to double check here among the general membership as well. Another query I had: Are the alternators from ‘79-80 different from the ‘81-83 280ZXs?
