I finally got her back together and on the road last week. However, i have discovered and oil leak near the front cover. The attached photo shows the area of the leak. When i was installing the front cover, i bent the head gasket because the head and the oil pan were already installed. I had to "squeeze" the front cover in between them. When i did this, the head gasket bent and crimped. I believe this may be the reason there is oil leaking now. I have a new head gasket, but i didn't want to spend the time to replace it if i don't have to. Has anyone had this problem or have an idea of where/why the oil is coming out? Also, my oil pressure is reading …

Well, I have been driving the Z around for a good 2500 miles now with no problems, fun car indeed. Just recently I started hearing this noise from the rear end of the car. It only happens when turning left or right and it only happens randomly, not all the time. Usually at higher speed / harder turns if I take it real easy around the corner (streets) it doesn't happen. I think it might be the diff but I am unsure and I don't notice anything loose or broken from under the car. A search brought up a lot of threads but I could find none with anything similar to my problem. Any suggestions on what I should check first? Just for reference, this is a stock L24 4 speed.

I just finished installing my new Auto Meter gauges (speedometer, tachometer, water temp, voltmeter, fuel and oil pressure). On my initial start up I noticed my voltage got really high, up around 17 volts. After it warmed up a bit it dropped down to 14/15 volts. I took my car for a spin and the volts got up to 18 volts maybe even over 18 as 18 volts is the max read. Even reads that high with the lights on. At idle it sits around 12/ 13 volts. I remember replacing the voltage regulator awhile back when I replaced the alternator. Maybe 3 or 4 years ago. Car is a completely stock 77 280z besides the upgraded exhaust system. No other electrical components upgrades are running…

I was just going to rip the ac system out of my 71 Z. But seeing how everything is this and intact, it just doesnt turn on. Ive traced the problem somwhere between the switch the the relay. The switch has no voltage with it on, so im assuming its the relay. Not sure tho. Anyways, I found the power wire from the dash going to a tri connection close to the compressor. 1 wire going to the Fan (power), the other wire going to the compressor (power) and the wire coming from the dash. I decided to just test the ac system by jumping the connection directly to the battery, the fan turns on and the clutch enguages. I didnt leave it on for very long because im not sure if there is…

I'm too afraid to take my injectors off the car for fear of cracking the rubber, and i don't have my new set yet. I will be going to home depot in about an hour to get supplies to build my own fuel rail. If anyone happens to know this off hand it would be greatly appreciated. Or alternatively, if anyone knows the correct barb size i should buy that would work too.

I am about to replace my flat tops with some round tops from ztherapy and am searching for 72 round opening air cleaner box to mate to them. I have checked my usual sources and can't find one. There was one on ebay, but I fell asleep and missed the end of the auction (). Does anyone have one in the garage or parts bin they are willing to part with? I am not concerned with cosmetic purity as I own a nice supply of sand paper and know where to buy orange paint. Thanks for checking.

I got in my car yesterday closed the the door, and now it won't open. Sealed tight, won't open from the inside or out. Doesn't seem like either handle is disconnected either. Anyone help me. I tried holding the handle and forcing it open with no luck. There hasn't been a problem with it sticking before. Any ideas for me?

76 280z. This just started the other morning, and i can't figure out why its happening. When i depress my brake pedal all of my gauges turn on, and my front indicators with my brake lights.. Worst part is i just got stuck somewhere with a dead battery and i think its because of this, i just checked all of the wires and externally they are all solid, i have no loose ends anywhere. This is driving me nuts.. is this any type of warning signal that something is failing by chance? Also my red volt meter LED turns on and stays on until about 2500-3000 RPM. Does this mean failing alternator? The needle on the volt meter does not work so i don't know what voltage im operating a…

Electrical question: Anyone know what the relay mounted near the hood cable release k

Am trying to install some new interior light door switches in my 1970 240z and had to remove the kickpanel to access the switch. In the process, I had to disconnect the relay switch that is suspended from the hood cable release mounting in the car. While there, I had the brilliant idea of disconnecting the wires from the relay in order to clean the contacts, but failed to label the wires for re-connect. This relay has 3 wires, and has labels that read "H", "B", and "S" on it. I could sure use some help on determining what the purpose of this relay is, and, more importantly, in finding out which wire connects to which contact on the relay. Any help would be greatly appreci…

Though a faulty gauge is not altogether urgent, my wife thought it would be good to have it working before our trip to the coast next week. Have just abount finished restoring Zoey (our 76 280Z). When I purchased her, the gauge would work periodically. Now, it just stays all the way to the left. Am looking for help on how to diagnose the issue. Here is what I have done: 1. Replace the fuel sending unit with a new OEM unit. (no help) 2. Removed the gauge and inspected the connections...and also cleaned the points. 3. Connected a 9-volt battery (+ to yellow and - to black). The needle moved slowly to the "E", but not any further. I thought that perhaps that was good.…

This is what the jan 71 240z with fiberglass rear quarters came with: Should the black filler flange be on the back side of the metal (like on my 280z)?
