If you have been reading my timing and mpg thread you will get more info. I think I found the culprit being the TPS. My car was running good today up until I decided to clean some crud from the engine using simple green. The engine was still hot when I sprayed lightly on all sides of the engine block then I rinsed it with water out of a squirt bottle being careful not to wet the electrical components. the car sat for about 2 hours and then after starting up it ran like crap. I hooked up the mighty vac to test for vacuum and got about 10 hg :tapemouth I was getting near 16 before. after revving the engine I saw what looked like exhaust coming from the rear end of the man…

I am stuck and need guidance: I am taking an early 4 speed transmission (monkey box) apart. I am stuck with the housing. So far I have the front bell housing and middle housing off. The tail section is not coming off. I have the speedo and reverse switch as well as cotterpin and crosspin at the shifter. I have a spare B transmission and tried removing the speedo fitting (the one with the hod down clip) but it does not turn out. Any tips are welcome. Thanks!

Its got a really rough idle.. moving the dizzy does not do Anything to improve it. around 300-700 rpm Oddly, if i press down on my dizzy cap the idle speeds up quite a bit and sounds decent.. maybe i should replace the cap too? I nudged one of my injector clips on accident and it came off, it did not change the idle at all, i think my injectors might be bad, or my dropping resistor... which sucks. Well in the process of trying to replace all my front end bushings I ran into a prob with my LCA bolt being totally seized to the sleeve. Tried everything including heat with no success. In short I was forced to cut the bolt off now I can't find a replacement. Anyone know where I can get one or does anyone here have an extra pair for sale?

I've known my valves needed adjusting for a while now, however today i changed my intake setup to use a filter ontop of my valve cover. Driving i had HUGE amounts of exhaust coming through the holes in my fire wall / shifter hole (i have no boot) When i looked at the engine bay and revved the engine, i saw the exhaust come shooting out of the filter. I'm assuming this is because i need my exhaust valve adjusted correct? and not nothing seriously catastrophic.

Our reassembled 260z engine was finally started and pegged at 1400 rpm. Got her down to 1000 and she sputtered and quit. Now she is starved for fuel. I pulled the line going into the mechanical pump and it was bone dry. I had to call a time out because it was getting to me. One other thing the vacuum at 1400 was 15 inches and steady so I must be close. Someone tell me where is #1 located on the cap for proper firing order? Are there pictures on the web that show it?

so, after letting my 72 Z sit for 2 years without doing anything to it, i recently decided to take on the project again. i bought a gasket kit for the Z and disassembled the engine. i rebuilt the carbs, replaced the head, valve cover, intake, and exhaust gaskets, replaced the timing chain, and started putting everything back together again. the last thing i did was attempt to give the Z a compression test, and thats when i found out that the crank will only turn around 90 degrees before and after TDC. Any idea of what i could've done to the engine to make it bind up like that when i try to turn the crank? also, i gave it a compression test before i took everything apart …

I am trying to diagnose a rear end noise in a 1971 240Z that I am putting back on the road / track after sitting since 1989. Here are the facts... 1. There is a significant noise coming from the back end. It seems to change pitch slightly with speed. It only occurs when accelerating and decelerating but nothing while coasting. 2. The noise does not occur with the clutch in when the engine is rev'ed. 3. I can't feel or hear anything wrong when I jack up the back end and spin either tire. 4. Rear brakes are freshly rebuilt. 5. Alright, so I've been struggling with my car since last October (more so than ever in the last month). I've been having an ongoing 'lean' condition problem. Here are the components that were called into question and have been replaced: Fuel Pump (brand new, tested and working within spec) Fuel Tank (washed/recoated) Fuel Pressure Regulator (Tested and working within spec) Fuel Injectors (replaced approx 20,000 miles ago) Fuel Filter (less then 5000 miles ago) Water Temp Sensor (replaced approx 20,000 miles ago, with injectors) Components that were/have been called into question: Air Flow Meter (swapped with a second unit I have handy, produced the same results) …

Hi, I have a 73 240z with a chevy v8 in it and a GM 3 wire alternator. The driving lights were running fine for a long time, since I put the new alternator in. Yesterday, my driving lights wouldn't turn on and I flipped the switch again and they worked. Today, the driving lights won't turn on. I also noticed that when I use my left blinker, the rear light (in the taillight) will only blink sometimes. Can anyone please help me find the problem, and where to find it? This is my daily driver. I run HID's on relays, so those still work. Thanks
