I just bought a '76 280z with the stock L28E engine. After a few minutes of driving (either city or highway), the temp goes up and past the redline as the engine overheats. When I stop there is vapor escaping from one of the hoses (heater core I think). I tested my thermostat and it opens/closes fine. I flushed the radiator and unplugged its top hose. When I run the engine, no coolant comes out from that hose. Could it be my water pump, or something else?

Sometimes while driving I'll lose some power, my idle drops below 1k and the engine seems like it wants to shut off. Also, I can smell some gas (not burning). I was thinking of checking/replacing spark plugs. How could I also go about testing injectors? Anything else to check? Oh, and stopping the engine for a couple minutes seems to fix the problem.

Ok I just replaced my alternator and volt reg today because it didn't start earlier. Got the parts from Autozone because I wanted something quick. Now I can't turn the car off! Had to unplug the distributor to shut it down for now. Did I plug it up wrong? The back of the new ALT doesn't look exactly like the old. The old ALT just had a wire connected to the E and A locations but the new ALT has a BAT and two E locations for connections. I feel like such an idiot. I'm going to put the new ALT back an see if it helps. Please give some insight, I need all the help I can get!

I own a 73 240z that the PO converted to electronic ignition. I have no idea what the system is. How can I determine what the system is? I think it's the orginal dizzy but not sure. The car has a blue Bosch super coil. In the black dragon catalog it says this coil can not be used with electronic ignition.. Advise Please. My car runs good when it runs but when it get hot it just dies. I wait a while and it will run again. It is not over heating and I have verified clean fuel filters, etc, At this point I can not drive it because of this issue. My thoughts, wrong coil or bad electronic ignition. Any ideas?

I recently had my gas tank boiled/flushed and recoated. I took the opportunity to replace the pump, but now I'm only getting 9 psi. I used a cheap/offbrand pump that is supposedly the appropriate modern replacement (which I'm now regretting). The question I'm wondering though, given that there's a small strainer sort of "built-in" to the tank, is there any likelihood that any coating process could have accidentally obstructed/covered over this and is now preventing enough gas from getting the pump, or is this truly just a case of "you get what you pay for?" I'd like to know who I should be annoyed at tomorrow: the tank refinisher, or the fuel pump manufacturer. Oh,…

I got to install new headers this weekend! But there is a pinhole in the welding and there is evidence of an exhaust leak:mad: *sidenote* '71 z 4speed stock everything... until now. The hole in the headers is literally about the size of a standard sewing needle I was wondering if anyone else has had any issues with MSA, and how smooth the RMA's are. I plan on calling them tomorrow. I have pictures, I can upload them tomorrow

Two days ago I finally picked up my car from the port. Upon arrival the battery was dead. This was no surprise to me, since I knew the battery wasn't too good. The trouble started when I got the car home. When charging the batteries, I accidentally connected the battery charger wrong way around. Fore some reason the cables going from the negative side was red, and the positive cable was black. I therefor automatically hooked it up the wrong way around. After a couple of minutes the battery chargers thermal fuse shut it off, and I came to realize my mistake. I connected it the right way and left it to charge. Trouble is when I now try turning the key, nothing happens. I h…

Hey Guys... First the specifics; "73 with flattops, known good mechanical fuel pump, new fuel filter, 3 and a half gallons of fresh gas with a can of B-12 Chemtool added to the tank... I'm not getting fuel to the filter or the float bowls. When I turn the key I hear an electric fuel pump in the right rear of the car... I see in the Black Dragon catalog that they offer a fuel pump filter for the '73/'74... Did my '73 come stock with an electric and a mechanical fuel pumps??? The old girl will start and run for a few seconds on starting fluid, but it's not drawing any fuel up to the top... HELP!!! Please somebody help me figure this mess out... Cheers, Scott

Ok I have a 78 280z i bought not running and fully rebuilt internally. Something was "mentioned" about fuel problems when i got it but the internals were in need of rebuilding anyhow (slightly bent intake valves). I have got everything back up and going except that my injectors have NO POWER to them. I believe that charger wires were crossed on the batt also! So ive been checking for the injection relay-but there is much discrepancy between where it is located on the 78 Model. I found the one by the battery under hood, but the cabin one i did not see by the ecu or passenger kick panel? Anyone know WHERE the darn thing is or ift here even IS another one? the one i found …
