hello names chris, i have a 76 280z I recently did a trany swap from auto to manual about a month ago. Now my problem is my car is smoking its white grayish smoke.The car has been sitting for about 6 months slowly working on it I finally got the trany in I started my car and the rpms were high at the cold start i tried to lower it but nothing worked . but after it warms up the idle goes down to 9rpm. I have check my plugs no oil on them, my coolant has no signs of oil either. but i did notice oil under my throttle body? can that be whats causing my car to smoke? I have also read that when a automatic trany gives out some fluid can be suck into the manifold so maybe that …

I'm in need of a new gas tank for my 1971 240Z. There is one listed on Craig's list described as being from a 1972-73 240Z. I have not been able to find any information that says that it wouldn't fit. Is this correct?

Does anyone have a good photo or diagram of how the gas reservoir tank inside a 1973 240z ought to look installed? I just took delivery of a '73 this week and the reservoir is laying on the floor of the rear hatch. I don't want to put gas in the car until its reconnected - but I want to make sure I do it right. Please note that the nuts and bolts to secure it to the inner fender are gone - is it attached with the usual 10mm bolts? Any help on this is very much appreciated!

Hi Guys, I rebuilt/restored my 77 in 2002. The car will start easily but will die 5 minutes later. It dies idling, driving, or even full out. At full out it can bog out and come back. The car will start again a few minutes later. Searching suggests there may be rust from the tank temporarily blocking fuel or the coil is dying. My truck had a similar problem and turned out the power supply to the computer was loose. Can someone tell me where to start testing based on these conditions? Thanks.

So, as some saw in my previous thread I am having a rev limiting problem. The symptoms are very similar to what is happening in some other posts on here, but I can't seem to identify my problem. The car/engine: '73 240z with an e31 block, e88 head (recently rebuilt), petronix ignition, ztherapy carbs (3 screw), pacesetter header... everything in great shape The symptom: At full or nearly full throttle when I hit ~4200rpm there is a pretty distinct hiccup... sometimes I can't rev past 4200rpm. k guys im having trouble with my exhaust fumes from my exhaust smelling like crap! it stings my eyes, nose, and makes me cough, it also gives me a major headache if i leave the car running for a long time. also number four cylinder is not firing, i know cause i pulled the spark plug and it had no hesitation on the idle, i also did a compression test and adjsted my valve already. the car is running on triple mikunis and back firing out of cylinder 4 is that whats causing the smell and hesitation on WOT? it is the choke?

hey guys, so this is my first z its a 1972 240z. i dont really know much but im taking it one step at a time to get it ready for summer. now im at the point where i want to know what in the world all these disconnected wires are doing unconnected and how or why they are there! this might be difficult since basically everything works with the car and i dont really know where the wires go or what they do. the wires are all in the car and i know what some of them are (ex. radio wires blah blah) except one disconnected at the front of the car at the right headlight. here are pics. any help would be appreciated!:classic:

Hey guys, I'm trying to get my 78 Z running. I bought it from a guy who let it sit for a few years. He told me it ran when he parked and he had just recently tuned it up. Or so he says. Wires and distributor cap looked ok. Oil was fine. Spark plugs had black soot on ALL of them and the car would barely turn over. So fast forward a few weeks later and I have replaced fuel pump, FPR, plugs and rotor button today(looked like crap) Distributor seemed to be fine. Now the car turns over just fine but wont start. Just keeps turning and turning. I havent had a chance to get someone to turn it over while i check the spark so that is on my list for tomorrow. But after i checked one…

Hi, so my starter died and I replaced it, but when I tried to start it, there was no clicking or anything. It sat for about a month until I had time to change the starter so is this most likely a problem of a dead battery? Is this right? Thanks!

Ok i have 72 240z and there is this really weird smell in AND out of the car when its warm. Its not gasoline for sure. Its more like sugary smell or something. My whole garage smells like it after car has been run warm (outside) and brought inside. My Z is not leaking BUT the rear end is literally covered with crap. I think i smell it more inside if i switch heater options to hot.. Please help, i want to get rid of that. Ive sealed tail light and all the possible holes from the rear end and also my muffler tip is 2" extended to keep out the fumes.
