I have been smelling a slight coolant odour when coming off the highway lately. Not much but it happens every time I go from 70 MPH to a stop. I stuck my nose everywhere I can think of that would leak and I can't find any thing external so I am worried about the head gasket. I did a compression check and got 180-185 for all. Plugs look consistent except for #3 which is a little yellow (middle in the following photo). I am not burning any oil or coolant and I don't see any water in the oil or oil in the water. No overheating issues. Am I imagining things or could the HG be starting to go? I'm taking the car to Texas Motor Speedway for a track weekend next month …

So I replaced both my master and slave this morning... filled the reservoir and pumped the clutch. There is def fluid in the lines. But i can't get any movement out of the slave. The master is connected to the clutch properly. I'm just wondering if i installed the slave incorrectly. When i installed it, the push rod was depressed, it seemed to be the only way for it to fit. So re attached the return spring and all that biz. tightened the adjust nut to where it pushes lightly against the tranny lever. i just don't know what's going on... could the pressure plate in the clutch be busted? any help greatly appreciated.. see pics

Does any one know the oil drain plug location on a late 1976 280Z (WILL MAKE IT A 1977CAR. ???). I need to find an oil pan for that period as my current pan has a oil plug in the back of the pan, and the only ones that I have found contain the plug on the left side(passenger side). Can someone explain to me if I need an oil pan with a side plug or a back plug? Anyone have a correct oil pan that fits my 280z for sale at the moment? Thanks for the advice! -Sergio

I want to play with my cam timing, seems to be off a little. When i built the l28 i set the cam sprocket on number 2, it seemed to not want to idle right and spit out the carbs while under load. i set the sprocket back to number 1, idle was much smoother and felt more reliable, it still spits through the carbs under load every now and again, mainly while cold and going up hill in high gear. i have a mild cam, need a new timing chain and adjustable sprocket but dont have the money right now. does any one know if i mite should adjust it differently, it seems as though something is just not right with it. tdc on number one both valves closed exhaust is at 11 oclock and intak…

After collecting my new project 240Z today I am unsure about the rear lights. Any ideas? They're not standard are they?

Yep, I can't find them. The Nissan part # is 27625-U5 225. No luck. If anyone has a CURRENT source for these, please let me know. And it's hot in Houston right now...

I recently purchased a 1976 280z to restore for my 16 year old daughter (my first car was a 1977 280z). Driving it home I noticed that if you are above 60 MPH and let off the throttle it starts to vibrate, and if you let off at 80 MPH it tries to shake the hood off. I figured a bad u-joint, but I checked the main shaft and half-shafts and everything looks tight. Could it be a bad differential strap/mount, or is there something else that someone has ran across?

I need to replace my rotting fuel hoses in the engine compartment. The car has a Filt-O-Reg fuel pressure regulator located downstream from the mechanical fuel pump. I was thinking in order to simplify the hoses (one has a 180 degree bend that is kinked) I would remove the regulator if it's not needed. I searched CZCC but did not get any hits on this regulator. As you can see from the vintage ad, this thing is the greatest invention since sliced bread. I can verify it does not cure vapor lock. I'm running a stock engine with flat top carbs. Any thoughts on keeping it or not? Thanks,

My daily 280z just had the auto 3 speed fail. A guy I know gave me a 4 speed for free. I ordered a clutch kit and a flywheel and they don't match up. Can anyone tell me if there are different sizes, or maybe what sizes they should be? According to the companies I ordered them from they are both correct. So I need to figure out whats wrong so I can return it quickly!

Hi all, I'm having serious electrical problems with my 87 z. Battery not holding charge; alt replaced and new battery. Told by a mechanic who hit me for a bunch of $$$ that possibly dashboard cluster, or harness. By another mechanic that electrical under pass seat shorted, yada, yada, yada. Does anyone out there know of a responsible, reliable mechanic that specializes on z's in Long Island, NY (preferably Nassau County) that will be able to definitively pinpoint problem. Thanks Art
