I installed a BDA full face dash cap over the weekend..then was setting the gauges back in place till I got the new backlit gauge faces from SpeedHut. Unfortunately, the speedometer popped back in behind the dash cap and now I can't get it back out the front. Anyone else had this problem? The dash cap looks so much better than the dash that was there, i really don't want to tear it up if I can avoid it, not to mention the 100$ I'd be out. I was thinking of trimming the dash foam behind the gauge cup and pulling it out the back of the dash, but I'd rather not cut up the dash, even if it can't be seen normally. Anyone have any ideas?

the new carpet kit just got the new kicked out of it...:mad: heater control valve is toast, started dismantling car but it occurred to me this part might be hard to find...that's the common consensus of posts, anyway, and motorsport, schucks, napa, no go...even struck out on ebay...so, ideas? it's a 78 280z, without air conditioning. thanks.

I bought a 1971 240z back in January. I got it running, replaced most of the braking system, fixed both side windows so that they both go up and down and tended to a few minor details. Long story short, I am ready to test drive it now but thought it would be good to change the trans fluid before doing so. The tranny is a 5 speed from a 280z and seems to be sound but the drain plug is not coming out and to make it worse, someone before me did a good job of messing it up. Can anyone give me any tips? I am not as experienced as many of so I am sure somebody should be able to help. The car is drivable so should I just take it to a shop and let them deal with it?

I am still at lost with getting the dealer fixing my oil pan i got the Z back last week and it still leak!!! it is a thing after the other now the mecanic there is telling me that if it leak again i will have to change the oil pan,dont understand why ??? i have to change it,they say it might be worpt first the rear main seal ,then the clutch slave cylinder,then the oil pan gasket,and now the oil pan.???he is still not intaling a oil pan gasket even that i gave him one ,if any one as some more sugestions please let me know.I wish they fix it once and for all,should i have them change the oil pan??or i should bring it to some one else. Where is the valve cover vent hose supposed to connect to on a 75 280z? when I got the car there was just a hose coming off of the valve cover which went over the intake manifold and just made a 90 degree and went down to nothing. I saw some pictures where it looks like it goes to a port on the afm to tb hose but mine does not have that port. there is a metal tee with a cap on the port that points to the valve cover vent tube, should it connect there?

Hi, I know that their are some threads on questions like this, but none of them seem to give a straight answer. Im 15 and starting to get very intrested in Z's. Ive been trying to get my engine+transmission ready for removal and ive got everything disconected except for the trans mount and the driveshaft. My question is how do I remove the drive shaft from the transmission? I didnt see any u joint clips so after some research i found the the u joints are unserviceable. How am I supposed to disconnect them? Ive been trying to unscrew the 4 bolts by the differential but they are very inaccesable. are there any other ways? Thanks for any help! Alex

I have a problem, I just finished swapping a fresh engine in my z and a KA transmission. And when I went to take it for the first drive, it went nowhere. with the clutch completely out, I barely felt it pulling. Here are the parts I am using: 75 bellhousing 75 bearing/sleeve/fork 72 clutch/pressure plate 73 slave cylinder I had a problem with the slave cylinder fitting but I fabricated a slightly shorter push rod and everything seems to be working with that. The fork has room to move (the throwout bearing away from the clutch), and the clutch was definitely engaging and disengaging (i rotated the driveshaft while someone pushed the clutch in... it engaged about 2in f…

Hey guys im new to this site but it seems pretty cool. Anyways im buying a 1977 Datsun 280z, my very first Z car. My friend has a 300ZX that hes in love with and told me i would have a lot of fun in this car and so far i really have. Anyways i have some questions, performance mods and body mods what should i do with it? I don't really know much about these cars so any feedback would be greatly appreciated. The things wrong with it is mainly just interior stuff like i need a new window crank and a new headliner and that jazz. hi im new to this site and i have tried looking for this in the forums but cant find it i just bought a 280z that was origanilly a cali car so it has the stupid emmisions stuff on it and i live in michigan now i have been told that the reason for my back fireing and missfireing is because of this is there anyway i can get rid of this or anything i can do to fix it i have the timing dead on new plugs,wires cap and rotor so i just cant figure this out any help is greatly appreciated.
