I just installed a Sony CDX-GT550UI stereo in my 71 Z. Unit works fine when the vehicle is not moving, but shuts off temporarily whenever the engine is under load, such as acceleration or going uphill. It comes back on when coasting or under no load. Initially I had it wired to a circuit controlled by the ignition switch, but changed it to being wired directly to the positive terminal of the battery when I first encountered the problem. Could the problem be a bad voltage regulator? The voltage regulator appears to be very old and the alternator looks to be recently installed.

BIG DILEMA!!! I picked up a 78 280Z about a year ago with a whole lot of spare parts, things i need yet is a driveshaft and the whole shifter assembly. I have found plenty of driveshafts for sale but almost NOTHING on even a shifter linkage rod? Like i said i need everything for the shifter. Does anyone know where I could find a shifter for my car, its an automatic. Thank you to anyone who can help!!

I have a 240z: new engine, new carbs, new fuel pump, new points, condenser and coil. Car start OK when cold (or after it has cooled down), but will not start after it get hot. I thought vapor-lock and put ice packs on the fuel line... didn't work. I'm really stumped... should I continue to look at the fuel system or the electrical system or what?

i'm putting a new rear main in, but my old one pretty much fell out on me, i have no grooves on the crank, and i'm installing my new seal now, but it seems to want to stop from being flush with the back of the block by 3/16in. is this ok? or is it suppose to be flush. don't really wanna put it all back together and have it leak.. again.

hey guys, i was wondering if anyone would be able to help me solve my brakes problem. my rears when driving let out a squealing sound from both the left and right drum brakes. the system is bleed correctly and the pedal has a normal solid feel. if i pull the hand brake while driving and hold it on, all the rear dragging sounds go away. the dragging sound i would describe as sounding like a train. i could take pics or a possible video of it making the sounds. thanks

I did an oil change on my Z the other day and noticed a spring sticking out next to the neck for my oil filter. It turns out that it was the internals for a ball valve that helps regulate the oil flow into the oil filter. Anyway the problem I'm having is getting the remains of the regulator out of the block. An extractor is too long and pick tools are too big. I was thinking of getting a bolt that fit and trying to get it out with that? Does anyone have experience with removing these and if so what.

hi all . i have a 1971 240z that i have been working on for 10 years , i need someone that is really good working on old 240z in the seattle or tacoma area . all i have left to get done is fuel tank and all the hoses which i have and finish the wiring . i havent been able to find the time myself so i just need to pay someone to do it . any help would be appreciated . thanks

My dash has a crack between the speedometer and the tach. I was going to put a full face cap on it but was told that if I did that, removal of these instruments in the future would required removal of the cap !!! Can the original dash be repaired in Houston, Texas ??? or is there a better solution to this problem??

Hello to all and thanks for reading. Let me see where can I start... I have a 78' 280z 2+2/automatic california model.. I recently replaced the plugs, plug wires, cap, rotor, replaced vacuum lines and new fuel injectors. The injectors are the newest addition, well the car ran wonderful after the injectors, had increased HP and MPG, then exactly a week after they were installed the car has a very rough idle. Now to explain this idle is tough, what it does is as soon as I start the car it revs to about 2k RPMs and drops to 0. I bought 240z stock steering wheel on ebay with no horn mechanism. I thought all I needed was to buy a horn pad. Turns out I need the entire horn assembly. I've been looking for the part, but unfortunately I can't find it. So if anyone knows where to get one please let me know.

Got a rebuilt alternator and installed a new external voltage regulator on my 76 280Z, It worked fine for about a month. Now the alternator is working fine but not sending power to the voltage regulator. This is an intermittent problem but has left me stranded 3 times when it doesn't charge the battery.Works perfectly for a few days then stops charging the battery which I can tell by my guage on the dashboard and the dimming of lights also checked it out with a mechanic using a meter. The fuseable links under the covers by the strut towers are good. Is there an ignition relay that could be malfunctioning from time to time and where is it? Much thanks

Anyone know of a website that would have a used wheel hub for a 77' 280z for the passenger front side? I have a post up on craigslist and the classifieds here, but am getting no bites. The only thing i am missing to get my car back on the road.
