My car will start but the engine will die out once i turn on the headlamps. The car will run with the parking lights on but once I switch it one more level to turn on headlights, it turns off. Any suggestions?

just replaced head gasket and during my reassembly I thought of a quick question and hoping someone here can provide the answer. I have the timing chain set up with the bright links in the correct position on cam and crank @ TDC. My question is whether or not the bright links should always be in the same position when at TDC? So if I turn the engine over several times and when I return to TDC will the bright links be in same position on the sprockets? Thanks

Hey all! My buddy and I just switched out the automatic tranny for a 5 speed manual. We started the car up and heard a continuous thumping/grinding (?) noise. We're thinking it may be that the starter is misaligned, but I'm wondering if the starter for an automatic is different than one for a manual? Does anyone know if this is true or have any suggestions? Thanks!!!

Yesterday i tried to start my Z for the first time in this year. I tried to start it but it wouldnt. That was expected as the car's been crancked 5 months ago. Well i keep on trying but then i hear some strange rattle and i stop. Checked that everything was on its place and no loose bolts etc. Tried again with the rattle, double checked and after that just click and nothing. It wont even try. Did my starter just die or what happened? I mean my battery wasnt full but not empy either, maybe 3/4 capacity.

I have three exhaust manifolds, believed to be one each from a 240, a 260, and a 280. All have air-line fittings that have been crimped off somewhere in their history. Common practice on many cars from that era. But can anyone tell me if there were ever 240Zs that did not have air pumps? If I want my 1971 240 to be a quality restoration, should I be trying to find an old air pump and mounting hardware? Thanks

HI? my car starts up just fine and idle in park and nuetral gear just fine without i pressing on the gas. But when i press on the gas when it get to a certain point the engine shakes. the shaking also occur whe it in drive or reverse position and even when am test driving the car i feel the engine shake. with my foot on the brakes and car in reverse or driving gear, engine still shakes. i changed my spark plugs and spark plugs wire but did not change the distributor cap and rotor. i dont know what is going on? maybe i must have screwed up with my firing other or what. pls what is going on with my car and what is the firing order from the distributor to the engine. di…

So I got my 77' Datsun 280z today and its strange. The car idles when I turn it on and dont press on the gas. but if I press on the gas it wants to die. also When Im driving it and I press in the clutch so that I can coast, it dies. So what sounds like the problem here to you more experienced members? Here are some pics of the car BTW!!

i drive, or drove i should say a 1976 280z, one morning i went to start my car. it turns over but it wont start. i checked for a spark, and yes i had one. i cleaned the connections for my battery. changed my fuel filters. the fuel filter next to the engine has gas in it but the one next to the tank does not, so im thinking that maybe my fuel pump isnt strong enough???? is there anything else i can check to see before i buy a new fuel pump?

Ok, this may sound like a silly question at first. How do you drain the fluid from a manual tranny while it's in the car still? I guess another question would be how much fluid should there be so I know how large a container I need to catch it all? Last time I pulled an engine/tranny together all the tranny fluid ran out through the drive shaft hole and made a mess on my garage floor...I'm looking to avoid that from happening again.

Ok, So just a couple of days ago i could turn the key and my car would start right up. Now, when i turn the key all i get is a clicking sound from the passenger side floor board. Could this be the ignition relay? How/What would be the best way to check? What else would cause this problem?

hey everyone so i got a 74 260z just purchased the autometer phantom electrical gauges was wondering how did you wire your gauges up did you guys use the stock harness??? if so trying to figure out which wire goes to the sender ground and 12v on the back of the autometer gauge thanks a lot
