seeing as winter is almost over, i could use some help diagnosing a problem that my car developed last season. I have a restored 1974 260z with a used set of 72' 240z 4screw carbs that i have installed the Ztherapy rebuild kit into. they have been tuned and tried and drove great for quite a while before this problem arose. this random little gremlin strikes at the worst possible times and is very unpredictable. Essentially what is happening is I lose all power, it feels like i am running on only one carb. It has happened while idling, and while at highway speeds. cruising on the highway it does feel like one carb, i lose power, decelerate to the point where i can maintai…

My 77 280z only blows cold air and only out the front vents. First of all I have my dash off so I have everything in clear view. Also my car is equipped with a/c (i think). Okay to start I think I have a leak somewhere with my vacuum lines since I only get air from the front vent no matter what I select on the control panel. I have replaced all the hoses with new ones so I'm guessing maybe one of the vacuum pods or even my canister is leaking. Is there a method for me to test for a leak? Or could my vent problem be something else? I do notice the vacuum pod on top of the heater control valve looks a little corroded. As for the heat problem it has to be either the heater…

Well, I think its been about 3 years and I finally got my car like I like it but several hearts attacks have slowed me down and it is time for me to get my car appraised so I can put it up for sale. Can anyone recommend an appraiser in the Atlanta area? Thanks Tommy 678-763-6939

Hi, I went through heater core replacement in my 78 280z. Heater core is controlled by mechanical valve with no vacuum hoses attached. This car has aftermarket installed AC. I see a copper wire that hangs in there and I do not know where to connect it. It looks like copper tube with sensor at the end of it. I see that it starts from the coil under the heater core and goes out long enough to reach the valve. It was just hanging around when I started replacement. I think I need to connect it somewhere but I do not know where to stick it . Can someone help me with this?

So, just after I had my 240z in the shop for routine checkup, I filled her up at the BP which used to have no-ethanol gas. After I filled up, I saw that they had switched to 10%EtOH and I called the shop to see how bad I had messed up. (I have rubber hoses). They said just run it through and it would be OK. So I did- ran throught the tank in about 2 weeks and then put in a tank of no-EtOH gas. The car sat for 3 months before cranking her again. Son (4 y.o. who loves "daddy's race car") and I revved the engine for 5 minutes and smelled gas and there was gas on the ground when we got out- a good sized smear of it on the pavement. SO- I guess I need new hoses, right? …

Hello I'm new to the site. I was wondering if anyone could help me with the fallowing issue I'm having: I bought my first z (83 280zx) last month and the alternator was overcharging. I went and got a new one, and I tested it before installing it on the car, and it was good. Now for some reason I think somehow put thenwires on wrong. There is a white cable wich is the positive, and off that there's a thinner one. That thinner one runs to a little cylinder like thing wich is grounded to the alternator. Then the is a harness wich has two wires on it. As soon as I started the car smoke came from this conector and it melted ... Can anyone assist me with any info, I would greatl…

Hey all I know I've asked this before I just can't seem to find it again. This afternoon while driving down I-10 up to Phoenix a large projectile of sorts (a rock probably) hit my window about six inches on on the driver's side. Made a hell of a crack that spider-webbed a few inches. Due to the fact that I already have two other cracks and the weather stripping is, well, no longer there to be honest, I've decided to replace the window. Two issues of sorts. My insurance covers windshield replacement (its free) should I go through them to have this done? Secondly, has anyone had any luck finding the windshield locally? I haven't tired calling around yet as it happened earl…

My girlfriend and I were headed down Lake Creek Pkwy in North Austin in light traffic on our way to dinner. There had been on and off again drizzle all day, so the roads were wet and pretty slick. It was dark, and all parties involved (myself included) were driving with their headlights on. We were both wearing our seat belts (both lap and shoulder belts). I was proceeding at what I consider to be a reasonable speed for conditions, with the flow of traffic, at approximately 20-25MPH in a 40MPH zone. As we approached the intersection, the light was clearly green at least 5 seconds before the collision and it was still green immediately after the collision. As I entered th…

I am new to this forum and to the Z community, and in need of some help. I am currently rewiring my Z from a complete "Hack" job the previous owner did. 1. The original engine compartment wiring harness has been replaced with one from an automatic transmission model (mine is a 5 speed manual). Will this make any difference? I did find a few modifications that i had to make, ie...bypass starter relay, reroute inhibitor switch wire to back-up lamp switch, etc... 2. Is the Voltage Gauge supposed to be "Always On" even when the car is off and key removed from ignition switch? If so, wont that drain the battery? And, Is there a modification that will only allow it to be on w…
