I am new to the forum and currently restoring my 1974 260z after it has sat for 26 years. I have rebuilt the motor replacing the timing gears, chair, and tensioner, as well as the harmonic balancer, rings, seals etc. I went through the su 3 bolt carbs and with some help from Bruce Palmer, I think they are ready to go. The motor is back in the car and I can only get it the fire if I spray carb cleaner in the carbs. It runs for a second or two but it is not picking up the gas. I attached a vacuum gauge just behind the front carb but the needle does not move when I crank the motor. With the number one piston at TDC, and the cam lobs at 11:00 and 1:00, the timing mark on the …

Just when you least expect it, Murphy's Law jumps up and bits you. I took my restored series 1 in to get some service work done. After servicing gets done, including new fuel filter, the car fails to start. The mechanic narrowed it down to a failed fuel pump. Long story short, I need to find a NOS factory fuel pump like yesterday. Everything on my car is correct factory parts, so aftermarket is not my first choice. Anyone know where I might find one of these? Any help appreciated. I think it is made out of something called "unobtainium". Thanks. Dan Hls30-20419 Original Owner

This weekend I took my radiator out and did some deep cleaning on it plus the hoses. As I pulled the entire radiator out I saw a sensor with a broken wire attached to it, I don't really know where to look, but does anyone know the name of this sensor? It def needs to be replaced.

My car, early 260z is leaking brake fluid badly. It leaks all of the brake fluid from the reservoir when I top it off two days ago. I notice the leak is from the bottom of the brake booster, but my question is, isn't the brake booster only act as a pressure builder to assist braking? Why brake fluid will leak from the bottom of the brake booster??? Also, is the 260z and 280z brake booster interchangeable? Please advise, thanks. Ed

I'm getting ready to replace my lower radiator hose and when I was checking where it ran to, I came across this part which I had not noticed before. I've attached a picture so that you may see what I'm asking about. It appears to be a valve of some sort, but nothing is attached to it. I've looked in the FSM, but it doesn't mention anything. What is it and should it be connected to something? My car has been running fine and will probably bypass it unless someone says otherwise. Thanks for any help! 1978 280Z

I just returned from Texas with a complete body for my 240 that had been soda blasted, primed, and has por-15 on the interior. After going over this car from top to bottom the only rust found was a golf ball size hole in the passenger side floor. the insides of the doors and fenders have a glossy black paint that is peeling off. My question is , What can I do to stop rust before it starts on a bare bones body?

The car is a 1978 280Z with a 280zx dizzy installed. So I drove my car to work which is 25 miles away it and drove absolutely fine to work. On my lunch break, it started fine and drove. After eating, went out and tried to start the car but it wouldn't start right away. After about 10 mins of cranking it fried up and drove it back to work. After work came out and cranked it all night till the battery died and it wouldn't start. Checked the plugs and they looked good. Went to autozone bought a new rotor and distributor cap, still doesn't start. I hooked up a spark plug straight to the coil and to see if the coil is good. I noticed it sparks when I put the key on O…

So the past couple days i've been forced to drive without running tail lights, break lights, stereo, OR instrument cluster lighting ... I'd had intermittent problems in the past where my stereo and interior lighting would simultaneously go out. And if i pushed my head unit around a little bit sometimes it'd flick it all back to life. Sooo. Last night I dove into the console looking for loose ends or wires with bad connections with plans of repair. Didn't find anything. Not gonna lie, the PO has things kinda ghetto rigged in there. Looks sketchy. But needless to say, everything since i've owned that car has worked fine. here's where i'm at. I checked the fuse box under t…

I drove the Z to work Tuesday and it was freezing when i left home. I work around 40 miles from home and the temp gage never got over 1/3 of the way up with no hot air coming out of my vent. It climbed up a little higher when i got into town and stopped at a few lights. My thoughts was that it might be time to change my thermostat, when i checked into a new one there were different temp's available. What is the correct one for my 1977 280z ?

So I have been told while people are following me that when I mash into the gas pedal I have dark brown smoke rush out of the exaust... I have had this problem on my work truck before but that was because the injectors were bad. This car has carbs so Im stumped... I can here that the rocker arms are out of line but the car still runs great so it must not be that bad, but can that be the cause of the dark smoke?? It only happens when I mash on the gas.. Please help!!

I just aquired a 1977 280Z that has be rewired to use a 1983 model alternator. I am trying to convert back to the original wiring and alternator but am not sure of what has been changed or removed (other that the voltage regulator). Does anyone have a diagram showing how to wire everything back together and/or pictures to show where eveything goes? Thanks in advance!
