When I turn my key to the run position (without starting) I can hear what sounds like a relay clacking back and forth. Everything in the car seems to work but I want to make sure that there is not a mission critical relay that is starting to fail. If it's a relay that is starting to go flaky then I'm quite content to let it fail as long as it isn't needed to drive the car. I went through the FSM and I can't find a relay that would leave me stranded if it failed. Did I miss any? Can anyone think of a relay that could put me on the end of a tow truck in a stockish 1973 240Z?

Rough idle 1 2 3

Hey guys Since about six months ago I've had issue with rough idle when restarting my car after a long drive. By long I mean long enough to get the car to operating temp for a bit. Symptoms are these. The engine won't be able to hold idle steady and when I give it throttle I get backfiring in the intake or right at the manifold. I originally though the problem was my injectors as three of the six were leaking externally, so this past weekend I replaced them with brand new ones. (there's a thread someplace on here about it). This didn't really solve my issue at all. To be honest it seems as if it got worse at times. My fuel pressure at idle sits at about ~31 and when I gi…

After a recent track event my car started making a thud when transitioning on and off of gas. Background... http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=41028 The track mechanic put the car up on the lift and diagnosed the problem as a bad differential. However, after searching the forums I can't find a rear end thud that has been tied to a bad diff. From what I read when the diff goes bad it generally gets loud or fails catastrophically. My car does not exhibit and new gear noise it just thuds on and off gas. It also thuds rocking the car back and forth with the e-brake engaged. I checked the usual suspects with the track mechanic: prop shaft: A little play…

The events described in the first paragraph occurred in about a 30 second span Monday night. I was tooling along a county road and upon encountering an oncoming vehicle, hit the dimmer switch (maybe seemed a little "crunchy?") to go to the low beams. Headlights went completely out. I hit the dimmer, lights back on, presumably on high beam. Hit the dimmer, lights out again. I figure better to be annoying than dead, hit the dimmer to turn the headlights on until we pass. Begin to smell a faint odor of burning plastic. Turn off the headlights with the main switch, turn back on, they come on not very bright rapidly fading to nothing. Say some bad words, slow down in nea…

Hello: attached, I think, is a picture of the 1980 Datsun fuel pump. Hoping to get to get a definitive answer to what the attachment is that is in the location where a check valve is normally seen. Some have said the attachment is a check valve others have said it is a fuel pulsation damper. I'm hopeful that the attached picture will result in identifying the attachment. Thanks to all for your patience.

Door handle 1 2 3

Hello all This weekend I finally fixed my heater in the Z. While the replacement was going on I somehow broke the door handle on the Z. What I mean is that when I pull up on the door handle from the outside the handle has nothing attached to it. I figured out that the wire that holds the two parts together (that being the handle and the rod that opens the door) have seperated. Has anyone ever had this issue and how did on fix it? The door opens from the inside fine just not the outside. Jan
