My in-restoration 240Z came with a pair if new ball joints - still in the box - but the taper doesn't fit the steering arms. I have now learned that no one carries ball joints for either (depending on who you talk to) 240Zs or 1970-only 240Zs. Mine is a '71, so I'll assume the problem applies to all 240s. I would like to hear from others who have dealt with this problem - is it better to try to track down a set of later (260-280) steering arms, or should I just find a machinist who can enlarge the taper? And if anyone has a spare set of later steering arms, how much $? Thanks, and happy new year all, Richard McDonell, Red Deer, Alberta

So i have done some work on my 1972 240z, put a cam in it, and headers. I was told that you cant set the timing with a timing light if you have a modded cam, so i set it as best i could. i have been driving it for around a month now, but it feels like it has a loss of power. when i put fresh plugs in it, it runs like a champ. however after a while it starts to feel laggy, when starting off if i dont have around 2 rpm it will bog and stumble to get up to speed. while driving it does good but some times it will jult like all 6 cylinders have no spark. also when at high rpm it will spudder and start to miss fire. i have a new msd coil for the car but am waiting on the resist…

I am rewiring my MSD 6A to bypass the transistor box on my early '74 260Z and just use the MDS box for firing. What I need to know is which wire coming off the distributer is positive and which is negative. I have a "male" and a "female" on the plug and don't know which is which. I have a factory manual and still can't find this info. Is there a way to check this to be sure?

My radio, side mirror remote controls, and fuel gauge have all died at once. The fuses are OK. Any ideas?

Hello. let me start by saying i love my z but right now i would have no problem taking it to a feild, setting it on fire and just walking back home. The car ran great until it randomly started loosing power no biggie just some clogged injectors. I put the car in storage for 1 yr when i had to move from TN to GA. I went back with a car trailer and got my beloved z car. brought it back as soon as it was off the trailer i was under the hood. I pulled my fuel rail and injectors no squirt.no go juice at all. so i drained the tank put new fuel line from back to front. new filters and a new fuel pump as well. I aslo decided it was time for new air sensor, thermotine switch, AF…

A few nights ago I was driving my 1974 260Z home and my lights started to dim, windshield wipers started to slow, and my engine began to choke. At first I thought it was just my battery. So I had my battery jumped and it wouldn't hold a charge. I automatically assumed it was my alternator after checking all my fuses. I replaced the alternator and charged my battery. I was able to drive it for about 45mins. I went home, woke up the next morning, checked the belts and such, and drove it around the block to make sure all was going smoothly. It seemed okay. Once I turned the car off and went back to start it up again it wouldn't start. Any help or advice anyone has to offer …

I have a 1975 280Z. I just replaced the starter and the regulator and it started up just fine. I went to turn it off and it kept running! I played with the key and it turned off. Could it be just coinsidence and maybe my ignition is wearing or my key is too worn... but the weird thing was when I took off the regulator it wasn't even plugged in.... the plug from the reg was taped next to the female plug. there were some wires taped into the female end but they did not connect to the male end at all..... can you help?? I am a beginner z person and am still learing thanks for your help....

I posted the following on the "engine and exaust" forum but haven't received any response. Maybe someone here can help with my request: I picked up a '78 280Z at an auction and I am in the process of getting it up and running as it came from the factory. The previous owner replaced and modified the existing EGR valve and neglected to transfer the OEM identification number. Therefore, I am not exactly sure what is installed. The replacement I purchased requires an orifice washer be installed to regulate the exaust gas into the intake manifold. The vendor supplied about twenty five different orifice washers of various sizes. If anyone out there, who has a '78 Z (76 or 77)…
