I posted the following on the "engine and exaust" forum but haven't received any response. Maybe someone here can help with my request: I picked up a '78 280Z at an auction and I am in the process of getting it up and running as it came from the factory. The previous owner replaced and modified the existing EGR valve and neglected to transfer the OEM identification number. Therefore, I am not exactly sure what is installed. The replacement I purchased requires an orifice washer be installed to regulate the exaust gas into the intake manifold. The vendor supplied about twenty five different orifice washers of various sizes. If anyone out there, who has a '78 Z (76 or 77)…

Are the series 1 door locks the same as any 240Z or 280 up to 78? I got a pair off Ebay for a 240 (or at least thats how they were represented) but it doesn't fit right in my passenger door, its as though it has an extra hump on one side............Are they different or could it be when the car was painted it's just thick in the door lock area, I hate to try and force it and crack the paint. Thanks,

The weather finally warmed up enough for me to crawl under the Z and replace the steering rack bushings and steering coupler. Steering coupler was not to bad but have a question with the rack bushings, passenger side is smaller so i installed the thick bushing on that side and the thinner one on the drivers side. My problem is after i tightened everything down (upper and btm brackets are touching at clamp ends) there is a 1/2 inch gap in the bushing where it is split. Is this common or have i done something wrong ?

Hi all My engine recently started tapping - dad says it is the tappets. Anyway, I tried to open my bonnet the other day but the pull handle just pulled out and did nothing Yeah so as you can imagine I am quite worried. Ithink the cable is snapped as it's pretty easy to pull out, and I pulled the actual cable and it just kept on coming out. So ermm.. how do I fix it? Last night in first gear occasionally my car made STRANGE noises too - like werereererer and schhhhh :( Thanks, Lachlan

There are several posts contained in the forums that describe a choke bracket to remount the choke lever onto the transmission tunnel. My choke lever is getting very difficult to operate in it's factory location and weather is getting cold enough to mandate the use of the choke in the mornings.. Does anyone have one of these aluminum brackets available for sale that they are willing to part with? The link is here: http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=15825&d=1167590642 I'm surprised that MSA (or an enterprising Z owner) hasn't jumped on this opportunity - especially since every 240Z seems to be afflicted with this problem <g>

I looked all over the internet, went to all the auto shops. Nobody has a unisyn flow meter. Im getting a bit desperate on tuning my twin su's. I only drive the car in the summer and Oregon rains ALL THE TIME. If someone in the beaverton area can lend me one, tune my carbs. Or let me know someone who can tune them, Ztherapy? Salem is a long ways away to drive on un-tuned carbs. I will pay anyone cash to tune my carbs. Or if anyone in Portland that can tune my car, that would be great. If I had a flow meter, Id just do it myself. I already replaced front main seal, output shaft seal and diff cover seal. My car is ready to rock!

Hello everyone and Happy Holidays. Can someone tell me which magazine featured the 240z 40th anniversary on its cover last month. A friend told me he saw it at a Publix Supermarket in Gainseville, Florida U.S.A but did not pick one up for me. He also forgot which magazine it was. He is a bad friend... !!!. Please advise.

I recently acquired a 1978 280Z which incorporates a 512 / 300 high lift, long duration cam. In addition, the engine is outfitted with a custom fuel rail and high flow / pressure injectors (29lb). The original fuel pump has been replaced with a unit that has a deadhead pressure of approximately 100lb. The problem I’m having is that the fuel pressure regulator is a stock unit. Among other problems, it is incapable of dealing with the high pressure and low manifold vacuum at idle. The biggest problem I’m having is that due to the high duration cam, the vacuum is less than 5 in-Hg while idling. As a result the regulator senses that the car is accelerating and caus…
