Hi, all. Maybe a silly question. I've been meaning to have the battery checked on my 1972 240Z for a month now, kept forgetting, and yesterday morning it wouldn't turn over. Not as dead as a doornail, the headlights came on dimly, and the voltage-driven LED domelight shone brightly. I hooked up a multitester this morning and measured a current of .05 amps with the ignition off. That's about 6/10 ths of a watt, not much in other words, and presumably accounted for by the radio head units memory. However ... about a month ago (see where I'm going here?) I made some upgrades to my sound system. While I don't think the only new electronic piece (an equalizer) is the prob…

So I've been daily driving my 1976 280z for about a year now and I'm getting around 11 mpg city 15 highway. I've already replaced the coolest temp sensor and plugged off the cold start valve (thought it could be leaky). Yesterday i picked up anther AFM, figuring mine could be bad and now it runs a lot smoother but still runs very rich. When I let up on the gas I hear a lot of popping from the exhaust. When driving it feels like it has a vaccum leak somewhere but I've yet to find one. My idle will sometimes drop very low (600 range) and my car will become very gutless. other times it'll run great. My bccd doesn't turn on all the time only sometimes, when it does do it's jo…

Since about two months I am trying to locate an intermittent squeak that come from the left side of the dashboard. Now that it is cooler, it is more audible and real bothersome. Furthermore, there is nothing I have ever done and I found absolutely nothing wrong anywhere. It happens when I accelerate at a stop and now that it is cooler, it is clearly audible and constant on the freeway at mostly any speed above 40 MPH. It sounds like if two piece of very dry rubber would rub on each other or some lose nuts or screws not tight enough would create friction. Until now, I have done the most imaginable checks on everything: -Torque all the steering bolts and supports under dash…

I am in the process of reassembling my engine with a reconditioned short block (Rebello). The oil gallery plugs are missing from the front and back of the block. Replacing these plugs is covered on page 113 of "How to rebuild your Datsun&Nissan OHC Engine" Does anyone know where to order these? Are they the same as the dowel plugs that MSA sells? Here is a link... http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/SMEC13/10-4641 Is there a Nissan part number?

The dash display lights do not work suddenly. I am trying to figure out which fuse is linked with those. I thought it was the headlights so I changed those fuses...No dice. The headlights work but the interior ones do not. Thanks!

First post, so go easy on me… I just got my 1973 240Z out of storage after 15 years and spent the last few weeks getting it ready for the road. It is still as beautiful as the day I parked it. All four tires are dry rotted, but still holding air. I’m at a crossroad for a restoration. I can’t seem to find the tires that were once in abundance. I currently have 215/60-14’s on a set of 1980 280ZX silver iron cross wheels. I can buy (locally) 195/70-14’s to fit those wheels or upgrade to a set of Rota RBs or Konig Rewinds. Any suggestions? 15â€? 16â€? I really like the look of the iron cross wheels on the car, but I’m not stubborn about it since they t…

I have been off this site for a while, other distractions. I'm back to working on my Z's since I retired. I have a '80 280ZX that's been sitting for 2 years that I bought mainly for the engine. After checking the engine over, I threw a battery in it and got it started. Tough to start and won't take fuel while cold. I suspect the cold start injector. The main problem I'm having is the fuel pump runs half the time when the key is turn on. I installed a temp ignition switch to see if that was the problem. It did the same thing. I'm thinking it is a fuel pump relay. After checking the engine bay breaker box and FSM, there are 2 relays, it seems to me the…

i have a 1980 280zx anniversary eddition (black gold), and it needs some work. i need a paint job really bad and would like to keep its original colors. the seats are worn slap out, the tires need to be replaced and the front end needs to be lined up. also the steering wheel needs to be lined up.and lastly the louvers over the back glass need to be replaced. i know that many people on this site have done some restorations and know what they are doing. i was just wondering how much would it cost for all of this? and is there a way i can line up the steering wheel myself? thanks Jared
